If you are a ‘Comparing Stocks’ resource owner, make sure you redownload your resource from TPT to get the latest updates! Yahoo Finance has a new look, so the guide sheet has gotten a refresh too. In the student activity side, Electronic Arts (EA) got acquired over the summer by a private middle eastern consortium so they need to come out and in steps Roblox for our video game industry comparison.

If you are not familiar with this resource, Comparing Stocks give you 43 unique head-to-head stock comparisons under basic key metrics. The students get a sample each to do and use Yahoo Finance to research the metrics and then make a decision about which company they think is the better investment option, and why.

I use this to help my students prepare for taking part in The Stock Market Game from but it would work for any stock investing simulation.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been continuing to work on bringing the Value Investigators Series to life. There’s going to be 5 parts to this series and part 3 is what I’m focusing on now.

This activity will be a station-style activity where students are exploring the idea of cost-per-use on different purchases. By exploring this way of thinking about different consumer items, we can deepen our thought processes for evaluating our purchases and what is truly “good value” to us!

A really interesting pair of responses to the same question: “how much time does a Starbucks Macchiato cost a typical teen?”

One student believes the 63 minutes of work is not worth it at all and the other felt that, while it was a lot, it would still be a choice she would make.

This came from a new resource I’m working on centered around making better purchasing decisions in our every day lives.
