Weekly High School Program Spotlight – Douglas High School Cross Country

Tell us something about yourself:
31st year coaching (basketball, football, track & cross country). 7th year as head coach of DHS Cross Country. The proudest part of my life is my wife, our 3 kids, and 1 grandson.

Athletes to watch this season:
Wyatt Balliew (senior) will be one of the top AA runners in the state. Bennie Olsen (senior). Katelyn LeFors (senior).

What's different from last year's team?
More of our runners participated in off-season training, and we are excited to compete this season.

Team outlook for the upcoming season:
Our program has set high expectations for this season, and our primary objective remains positioning ourselves to compete for the conference title.

Who do you see as the top team headed into the season?
The Black Hills Conference is a great cross country conference in this state. Sturgis, Spearfish, and Custer are always great. There are also a bunch of individual runners in the BHC who will place at the State Meet.

What is your coaching emphasis this year?
Our program is built on toughness, resilience, and the bond of a tight-knit group.

Last season's record or finish:
4th in the Black Hills Conference

Any seniors moving on to play at the next level?
Wyatt Balliew, Bennie Olsen, and Katelyn LeFors. No decisions have been made, but offers have been given.
