Moments That Matter: Twister Edition! 🌀

Sometimes, learning looks like getting tangled up in a game of Twister! 😂 While our kiddos played together, they were practicing so much more than just where to put their hands and feet.

Twister creates natural opportunities to work on:
-Following directions and attending to instructions
-Social skills like turn-taking and playing cooperatively
-Flexibility when the game doesn’t go exactly as planned

These fun, everyday moments give our kiddos opportunities to practice important skills in a natural and motivating way. That’s what makes them Moments That Matter! 💛

When you’re covering a client you’ve never worked with before and suddenly you’re conducting a full interview trying to find ANYTHING they like 😭😂

In ABA, pairing is all about building rapport and creating positive associations with your presence before placing demands. We follow the client’s interests, offer choices, engage in preferred activities, and give them space to get comfortable with us.

Sometimes pairing means being patient and letting the relationship develop naturally. 💙

🎶 Moments That Matter 🎶

Today’s moment was all about exploring cause and effect with our musical octopus 🐙🎵 Our kiddo got to try out different instruments, experiment with how each one made the octopus respond, and practice making choices along the way.

ABA isn’t just about sitting at a table and working. It’s also about creating meaningful learning opportunities through the things our kiddos already love. 🥰

POV: I told my client it was time to do work and apparently I declared war 😭🧱

In ABA, transitions from preferred activities to non-preferred tasks can sometimes lead to challenging behavior. This is why we focus on things like clear expectations, transition warnings, reinforcement, and teaching appropriate ways to communicate when something is difficult.

Because sometimes “time to work” is apparently a personal attack. 😂

Safety goggles on, tools ready, and imagination at work! 👷‍♂️

Play like this may look simple, but it creates so many opportunities to build fine motor skills, coordination, functional play, following directions, and independence. From using a toy drill to practicing safe tool play, every little moment is a chance to learn something new!

Because sometimes learning looks like getting a little “work” done! 🔨😄

POV: You’re gone for ONE minute to wash your hands and suddenly you hear screaming from across the clinic 😭😂

In ABA, behaviors can happen unexpectedly, which is why strong teamwork and communication between staff are so important. A quick handoff helps make sure the client is still supported, even when you step away for a moment.

POV: You’re teaching your kiddo how to respond to mean comments appropriately.

In ABA, we can use everyday situations like this to practice social problem-solving, coping skills, flexible thinking, and appropriate responses to unwanted comments. The goal isn’t to teach kids that they have to please everyone. It’s to help them feel confident responding in a way that is safe, respectful, and works for them. 💛

Because sometimes the best response is simply: “Okay… and?” 😌

Moments That Matter 💛🚌

Sometimes the smallest toys create the biggest learning opportunities! 🥰 Today’s play included a whole crew of little people and a school bus, giving us the perfect opportunity to practice imaginative play, functional play, communication, and social skills while having fun.

From picking who rides the bus to creating their own little story, every moment of play is a chance to learn, grow, and connect. 🌟

POV: ABA really DOES open a lot of doors for you 🚪

The doors in question: 🚗🏠🚪 a whole world of toy cars, dollhouses, sensory activities, and pretend play 😂

But honestly, play is where SO much learning happens! Through play-based ABA, kiddos can work on communication, social skills, functional play, problem-solving, following directions, and so much more all while having fun. 💙

So yes, ABA opens doors. Sometimes they’re just 3 inches tall and made for toy cars. 😂
