Centuries after the violin became popular in the 1500s, it’s still a part of nearly every aspect of the music community: classical music, fiddle, folk, popular music, movie and video game scores, and metal. Many violinists play for fun, while others have fulfilling careers as teachers, orchestra/chamber group members, studio musicians, or playing gigs such as weddings, church services, musicals, operas, and special events.
We asked some of our violin students and teachers what they love about their instrument:
“When I was five I went to my first live orchestra concert. (TSO) That was the first time I heard a violin. I really loved listening to the violins. I love the sound of the violin. Now I am learning how to play so that someday I can play in an orchestra.” - Chase, student
“Violin is a difficult instrument - the most difficult one I’ve learned - but I love its character. It rewards good intonation with resonance and relaxed posture with a rich sound. It’s not something you master, but something you continue to learn about every single day.” - Jenna, teacher
