Today, we honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. Memorial Day traces its origins to 1868, when Decoration Day was proclaimed and observed on May 30 to decorate the graves of Union soldiers and sailors.
After World War I, Decoration Day was expanded to honor all those who died in all wars. In 1967, it was officially renamed Memorial Day. My mother’s younger brother, Charles Kiene, was killed in action while serving on a PT boat in the Southwest Pacific in 1944.
Let us never forget.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated in our 2nd annual Ruck the Ball this past Saturday! We want to thank everyone who helped make this possible and to our partnership with the University of Toledo’s SVA (our rival for the i75 game this weekend). This event serves as a reminder that we can all come together as a veteran community to remember those we have lost in the battle of mental health. If you see these veterans, congratulate them on completing a 22 mile ruck march!
