Why aren’t kids learning history anymore?

If you review your state standards (I’m most familiar with KY) you’ll notice a lack of history laced within it. Sure, there are social studies standards about knowing what road signs mean, learning how to live within a community, etc. But we’re lacking the deep bite of history I remember taking before leaving the 4th grade.

Why did we ever learn history in the first place? Some say if we forget, we’re doomed to repeat it. Some say that dwelling on the past only dampens our future.

What do you think? Do you believe that history should be taught in K-4th classrooms? Or do you believe that there are more important matters that need to be addressed, like the epidemic of late literacy and mathematic understanding?

Hello everyone! I decided to make a page specifically for my tutoring business, now called Allie's Academic Achievers! I am also excited to announce that I am expanding my hours of availability! I am now also available from 3:30pm-8pm every Saturday.
