We had a fantastic talk on April 23rd hosted by the WKU AMS Graduate Student Chapter!

A huge thank you to Ahmet Kaan Aydin for delivering an insightful presentation titled:
“A Low-rank Solver for the Navier-Stokes Equation with Uncertain Viscosity.”

Ahmet, a Ph.D. student in Applied Mathematics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a proud WKU alum, shared powerful techniques in computational mathematics and fluid dynamics — from uncertainty modeling to low-rank solvers for large systems.

📢 WKU AMS Speaker Series – Thank You! 🎤📊

Today, the WKU AMS Graduate Student Chapter had the pleasure of hosting Ruchini Mendis for an insightful talk on Finite Mixture Regression Models with the EM Algorithm! 🎓✨

She provided an engaging walkthrough of how the Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm is applied in statistical modeling and demonstrated its practical implementation in R using the ‘flexmix’ package. It was a fantastic learning experience for everyone!

A huge thank you to Ruchini for sharing her knowledge with us and to all who attended, both in person and via Zoom! 🙌

And of course, we hope everyone enjoyed the free pizza and soda! 🍕🥤

We had an amazing time connecting with fellow graduate students, faculty, and friends at the Ice Cream Social! It was a great opportunity to meet new faces, share some laughs, and enjoy some delicious treats while promoting the AMS WKU Graduate Student Chapter.
