Hard things are good things, even for the tiniest. "The goal is not the goal. The effort is the goal." As well intentioned adults helping young children, we often misunderstand and assume that, for example, getting the shoe on is the goal and therefore assist by putting the shoe on only to be met with an irate toddler who was working through the motions of putting on the shoe. The effort and motions of putting on the shoe is often the goal. This is often why they exert maximum effort to put the shoe on, then take it off. Over and over again. Step back and silently observe the effort and intention. It's beautiful.
Children are constantly being challenged. Growing up is hard work. Fortunately, children are more than up for the task. We think fondly of stress-free childhood, not worrying about things, deadlines, ruminating on mistakes, those adult-problems. Geez, kids just have it so easy! “We do not see thin...
