As most of my students know I am not shy about my love for the Cleveland Browns. Last week I may have smack talked a bit too much thinking this was our year…. 1st thing this this morning I had kids in all grades tell me my team lost…. I know they did. But the worst is the 2nd grade boys really giving me the business about my team losing. Building professional relationships I guess. Go Browns.

Last week I started a year long class we are calling “Life Skills” to the 5th grade students. Similar to DARE but we will have more class discussions on real life issues. We will discuss, bullying, choices, dangers of Vapes and other drugs, what is a friend and so many more Life Skills. I hope to build amazing professional relationships with them to help guide them is their many life choices. Week 1 we opened up with the class rules, what we will learn as a class and all seem excited…. Few days later we had an Academic reward day and I went into their classes for a Kahoot game. Did we laugh a lot ? Yes we did. I’m so excited to spend this time with them.

Last week I went into all 3 Kindergarten classes for a meet and greet called “Who is Officer Brian” we talked about who I am, what I do, school safety and talked all about me. Now I get to see them at recess and lunches and ask all about them. They were polite, kind, respectful and all were well behaved. These littles make me laugh everyday. Cheers to 13 years of school my friends.

Friday Night Lights: The calm before the storm. Today I took a minute and went to our empty football stadium. I took a seat in the middle home bleachers and took a breath… not an anxious breath but a breath to pause, reflect and remember why I do what I do…. Our students have a huge game tonight vs a good Carey team.
This stadium is completely empty now but in a few hours it will be full of students, and community members from both schools. This is a breath to remember how much I care for this school, students, staff and community. Tonight will be a huge night and I am very thankful that I get to be here to witness this. These Friday Night Lights are going fast. To my students, enjoy this night, live in the moments, make memories, make great choices and live your best life. Go Chieftains

While Tiffin University Men’s BB team was here I may have accidentally, mistakenly, kinda hinted, suggested, and perhaps talked a bit of smack to the entire team. I told them they could not dunk on me because while in JH observed a lot of BB on the bench….. they said challenge accepted. For me…… life lesson learned. What a great group of fun guys. Go Dragons.

With this being year 14 for me as an SRO I feel this has been an amazing position for me within my years of Law Enforcement. One way I’ve been able to build relationships and connect with students is sports. Being a Cleveland Browns fan has been difficult these past 14 years. Mondays always seem to be dreadful as soooooo many times the Browns would lose and the students would really let me have it. Well, after today’s miracle Browns win I want my students to know tomorrow morning I will have a huge smile on my face, I will walk with pride and have a little happy attitude about me. You could say I’m ready to smack talk to a lot of kids….. this may be limited so I’m going to enjoy this 1 time. All in good fun.
