Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU

Jack McQueen, a third-year Architecture student at WKU and a member of the Kelly Autism Program, recently completed his first commissioned work of art, and that first commission became an international piece. Our team was delighted to personally deliver Jack’s artwork to our partners at Campus Lumya in Romania.

Like the team behind Campus Lumya, Jack was able to envision what the campus will look like when it is complete: cheerful red-roof buildings filled with opportunity, hope, and love. His artwork beautifully captures the vision and heart of a place being created to help autistic individuals thrive.

We are incredibly proud of Jack and honored that his artistic journey, and his very first commission, has become part of Campus Lumya’s story.

“Nothing about us without us.” This is the motto of many autistic self-advocates so I am so glad that when the Bucharest news organization reported on our event, they centered one of our students in the story.

What began out of necessity, when a handful of Bowling Green families came together because of the lack of meaningful services for autistic individuals, has grown into a program with an international reach. Today, that same family-driven spirit allows us to support Campus Lumya, a new organization founded by Romanian families who knew their loved ones deserved more.

A team from the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex was invited back to Romania to continue this collaboration, this time with a focus on expanding employment opportunities for autistic workers.

During our visit, we traveled to three cities, met with government officials, appeared on national television, and spoke with parents and employers who asked the same question we hear in Kentucky: “How can I help?”

This experience underscored what can be accomplished when we reach across borders, firmly join hands, and push together for a better future. It was an incredible opportunity for the SVCEC, our partners at Campus Lumya, and our local Kentucky communities. We all benefit when expertise is nurtured and shared.

While part of our team was advancing this work in Romania, others were on WKU’s campus welcoming and supporting our newest students. Whether the work happens in our own backyard or 5,000 miles away, you can count on the SVCEC to be agents of change.

Thank you, Steluța, for your vision. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Pipera for your financial support. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended and shared the ideas and insights that will help us shape better outcomes for autistic individuals and their families.

Dr. Link is a tireless advocate for rural communities in general and specifically for the needs of autistic adults. We are incredibly thankful for the way she continues to make sure rural voices are represented and continues to shine a light on the needs of the individuals we serve.

Congratulations to Dean Corinne Murphy on being named **Spirit of WKU! ❤️🤍**

Dean Murphy is a champion for our university, our programs, and our students. She doesn’t just support the CEC from afar. She is a visible presence in our programs, whether she’s singing songs with our little Hilltoppers at RECC or welcoming our KAP freshmen the day before their first college classes.

Her Hilltopper pride shines through in everything she does, and everyone at the CEC is so proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations to Dr. Corinne Murphy, awarded the 2026 Spirit of WKU Award at the annual Faculty and Staff Convocation.

Dean of the WKU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Murphy is recognized for her enthusiasm, leadership and commitment to transforming lives.

Under her leadership, CEBS increased retention, persistence and degree completion while building a positive culture. She established the Student Success Center, welcomed Professor Chip to support student well-being and launched a welcome postcard campaign that builds a sense of belonging for students from day one.

Dr. Murphy has also strengthened CEBS by building authentic relationships across campus and the community, giving faculty and staff a voice in the college’s priorities and championing the teaching profession through programs that introduce P-12 students to careers in education.
