BGSU Falcon Forensics Speech and Debate

BGSU Forensics is the oldest competitive performance, speaking and debate organization at Bowling Green State University.

This group is dedicated to all those who love the BGSU Falcon Forensics & Debate Team! BGSU Forensics is the oldest competitive organization at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Founded as an oratorical and literary arts society before the formal chartering of the university, the program was, itself, formally sanctioned in 1919. f Pi Kappa Delta (national forensic honorary) was chartered in 1930, standing as one of BGSU's oldest active student organizations. Forensics is an intercollegiate public speaking, oral interpretation and debate activity. Annually, BGSU travels to 16-18 forensics tournaments, including, the Ohio Forensics Association (OFA) state championships, North American Forensics Society (NAFS) Continental Championships, International Forensics Association (IFA) Championships, Pi Kappa Delta (PKD) national tournaments (including the NCT “National Comprehensive Championships”) and the National Forensics Association (NFA) National Championships. BGSU maintains an exceptional record of excellence, holding over 40 national titles. Each year, the Falcon Forensics program hosts the BGSU “Falcon Classic” Forensics Tournament (now in it’s 70th year) as well as the nation's only all student run themed tournament. Our program boasts over 3,000 alumni and one of the nation’s only alumni chapters of Pi Kappa Delta. The team is sponsored through the BGSU College of Arts & Sciences, School of Media & Communication and Department of Communication. The BGSU program is educationally focused on the belief awards are a reward not a goal, and the most important component of forensic involvement is the personal and educational growth of its members. BGSU participates in all forensics (IE) events, including: prose, poetry, dramatic, duo and programmed interpretation; impromptu, extemporaneous, informative, persuasive, after dinner and communication analysis speaking as well as Lincoln/Douglas, IPDA & Parliamentary Debate, Discussion and Student Congress. Though sadly, BGSU chose to eliminate the Forensics and Debate Team, this site will remain open for alumni to connect and as an archive of over 100 years of dedicated excellence to the art of forensics and debate as well as Pi Kappa Delta. Thank you all for sharing your stories, speeches, arguments and commitment over the years. The heart of any team is not in its awards, but in its people.

Hi Forensics Alumni. It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Skipper. He was a great little boy and attended every home tournament for the past 15 years. He greeted each tournament guest with a wag and copped a belly rub as much as he could. Since he was as huge part of our forensics family I wanted to share that he passed peacefully, in his bed next to family. His fuzzy face will be missed.

The Falcon Forensics & Debate Team had a breakout performance, placing second at Marshall University this weekend with 10 individual honors: 1st Impromptu & 6th Extemp (D'Maya Brown), 2nd Impromptu, Persuasion & Extemp (Miriam Irick), 1st Poetry & Dramatic Interpretation, 2nd Informative Speaking and 5th POI (Sydney Rettig). Pentathlon Champion (Sydney Rettig). Not a shabby 2nd tournament of the season for the Falcons! BGSU School of Media and Communication
