The last week of classes is upon us! We celebrated by having “Q’doboe” as a studio for dinner tonight and reminiscing about our favorite parts of the semester.

This weekend was full of large ensemble concerts!
The Concert Band performed English and American repertoire. Shoutout to Kathryn Swanson on beautiful solos and an amazing tuning A!
The Wind Symphony premiered Adam Har-zvi’s Concertino for Horn, Trombone, and Wind Ensemble and other pieces that were a hit with the visiting high school honors band students.
Philharmonia performed Dvorak’s 9th Symphony. Martha Hudson and Ally Dana played beautiful solos and changer sections, and Amanda Withrow performed the infamous English horn solo.

Brava to Martha Hudson on a wonderful Master’s recital yesterday! She played works by Bach, Ravel, Uribe, and Morris. Her collaborators included Ashley Lewis (piano), Lauren Nichols (flute), and Mariah Stadel (bassoon).

Many of the BGSU oboes and bassoons performed in the Pemberville Equinoctial Artist Recital concert series this past weekend. The first concert of this series was all double reed repertoire.
The program featured four world premieres and some familiar works. Ally Dana performed some pieces bass oboe, and Ashley Mania performed a work on the tenor shawm.

⭐️ New student introduction ⭐️
Kathryn Swanson is a first year Music Education major. In high school, Kathryn participated in many honors bands (including at BGSU), was presented with the John Philip Sousa Award, was a member of National Honor Society, and was on the swim team. She won her high school’s concerto competition and played Rondo for Solo Oboe and Wind Band. Kathryn was also a member of Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra.
At BGSU, Kathryn is in Concert Band, a wind quintet, Double Reed Club, Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association, and Cru. Outside of music, Kathryn enjoys reading, hiking, and swimming.

⭐️ New student introduction ⭐️
Madeline Kissinger is a first year Music Education student studying with Dwight Parry. In high school, Madeline was Principal Oboe of OMEA AA band and participated in the Capital University Honors Wind Ensemble. She was drum major for two years in marching band, sang in the choir, and was involved in the drama department and pit band. At BGSU, Madeline is in Concert Band, Double Reed Club, and the Music Learning Community. Outside of music, Madeline enjoys art and working with animals.
