Attention Parents:
A special SBDM parent election will be held to fill a vacant parent representative for the T.C. Cherry Site-Based Decision Making Council (also known as the SBDM). August 20-September 3, 2026.
The council is the governing body of the school. It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing, discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extra-curricular activities and other matters pertinent to the operation of the school. The council meets tentatively on the 4th Thursday of each month at 3:30pm. Schedule is subject to change.
A parent council member shall be a parent, stepparent, foster parent, or legal guardian of a student attending the school during the council member’s term of office. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or a relative of an employee (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law, daughter-in-law) of T.C. Cherry Elementary School, or for the district central office, or a local school board member, or spouse of a school board member. The term begins July of 2026 and ends June of 2027
The nomination/application deadline is September 3. Voting will take place electronically or in the front office, September 4-8, 2026. The winner will be announced September 9.
Minority Representation: Schools with a minority student population of 8% or more shall have at least one minority representative on the SBDM council (KRS 160.345). For the purpose of School Based Decision Making, minority is defined as “American Indian, Alaskan native, African-American, Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto-Rican, Cuban, and Central-or-South-America origin, Pacific Islander, or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school.”
