π¨π **7TH GRADE ART IN ACTION!** ππ¨
7th grade students have been learning about Yayoi Kusama, a famous Japanese artist. π―π΅ Kusama was known as the βprincess of polka dotsβ . She created many magnificent sculptures, paintings, and installations of pumpkins with polka dots all over them. π
πΌοΈ Students learned about the artist, and examined/ critiqued many examples of her art. The students discussed how the use of pattern, contrast, and movement within art can create a masterful work of art made with simple subjects such as polka dots and pumpkins. π¨β¨
π Today, students created their own pumpkin sculptures inspired by Kusama. Students observed and practiced the process of creating sculptures by placing glue covered strips of newspaper over a form/ armature. This process is called paper mache. π°βοΈ
π Next, the students will paint their Kusama inspired masterpieces with high contrasting colors, and many polka dots like the great Yayoi Kusama once did. π΄ππ¨
We canβt wait to see these masterpieces come to life! πβ¨
