We are doing a donations fundraiser for the middle school band!! What is great is that every cent goes directly to the program, and it's easier now more than ever!

There are three ways to pay: cash, check (payable to SWMS, put “band” in the memo), and card. Cash & check may be sent with any band student or mailed to the school. See below for the link to pay with card.

If using the link, please make sure to uncheck the button reading "Myself" and put the name of the student (first and last) who that person is donating for. This will help Ms. Spears and I keep track of the amount each child is bringing in for our class and individual prizes.

Every bit goes a long way toward providing materials and opportunities for our middle school band students!!

What an incredible start to the marching season with the Marching Spartans!! These students have worked so hard and had such a positive attitude the last two weeks during band camp. They have learned a lot of new music, marching techniques, and some drill for the opener, as well as made new friends and memories!

Special thank you to Dr. John Cipolla for coming out to work with our clarinet and saxophone students! And we also had a special visit from Speedy from Speedwash Car Wash! Be on the lookout for us on TV!

We are so excited to keep working and improving to bring "The Tin Man" to life!

A big congratulations to a Spartan Band alumni, Dr. Ben Gerkins, on both his recent graduation with his Doctorate degree from one of the top music schools in the country, University of North Texas, and his recent appointment as the Assistant Director of Trumpet at Eastern Illinois University!! We have always been and continue to be proud of you and all you do!

TRUMPET GRADUATE TO ILLINOIS: Ben Gerkins (MM ’23, DMA ’26) has been appointed Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Eastern Illinois University.

We are so very proud of all our middle school band students for their excellent performances on Friday at our final concert of the year!! They played some challenging music and well!

Also, special thank you to Mr. McFadden, our student teacher this quarter, for coming back to conduct them on the concert!

We are so proud of all their hard work this year and have enjoyed working with them. We are excited for next year!

What a year it has been for the South Warren Band program, and what a great time it was celebrating our amazing students and their accomplishments with some fantastic music and awards last week!

Some highlights from this year:
• Marching Band – 3 1st in Class 5A trophies, 1 Reserve Grand Champion trophy, 2 Grand Champion trophies, 1 contest sweep (winning all overall trophies at the contest)
• KMEA All-District Band – RECORD number of students in the 11/12 band (14 students)
• KMEA All-State Band – Highest achievement for any high school band student in the state, tied the South Warren RECORD for the number of students selected for the All-State Band
• Solo & Ensemble – 38 different events, many performed in multiple groups, all received a Proficient or Distinguished Rating
• WKU Honors Band – RECORD number of students selected with 17
• GSA - Cooper Brownlee selected as one of 6 percussionists in the entire state
• The Wind Ensemble was selected and performed at the KMEA Conference in February for the first time in school history, which is the HIGHEST HONOR for any band program in the state!
• Both the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble received UNANIMOUS DISTINGUISHED Ratings at the KMEA Concert Performance Assessment! In addition, the Wind Ensemble received the “ASBDA Band of Distinction” recognition, meaning they were within a point of a perfect score!

It has been a BIG, RECORD-BREAKING, and HISTORIC year for our band program, one that we are sad to see come to a close. We are so very proud!!!

To our Seniors, words are not enough to express how proud and grateful we are for you and all your hard work over the years. It has been a joy to watch you grow into the musicians and people you have become! You make us laugh and have filled band with so many memories that we will treasure. You have left your mark on the band program and laid the foundation for us to continue building to new heights! We hope you carry the memories, friendships, and lessons made in band wherever life takes you!

Great job, Spartan Band!! You have a lot to be proud of!! What a year!! 😎
