Leave No Trace

When a trail's backed up, it's tempting to step around the crowd. That's how braiding starts — multiple parallel paths eating into vegetation that won't grow back this season, or maybe ever. Waiting ten seconds costs you nothing. Widening the trail costs everyone.

Same trail, different day, completely different experience. Hitting popular spots early morning or on a weekday means less crowding, less impact, and, honestly, a better experience. Check visitation data or ask local land managers before you commit to a Saturday afternoon at the most popular overlook in the park.

It's Plastic Free July, and we're here with some tips to keep our coastlines free of plastic! 🏖️

Plastics make up a significant portion of litter both on beaches and in the oceans. This waste not only makes beaches less enjoyable for humans, but hurts marine life. Reduce your plastic usage and Leave No Trace by following our principles.

🚰 Know Before You Go: Start off strong by not bringing any single-use plastics or styrofoam with you. Instead, bring your food and liquids in reusable containers to keep them fresh on your trip!

🗑️ Trash Your Trash: Pack out all your trash with you, plastic or not! Instead of using a new plastic trash bag, consider getting a reusable dry bag, or repurposing another bag you have.

🐕 What To Do With P**p: Bring a reusable or eco-friendly bag for your pet waste, or reuse a handy bag from the grocery store.

🫂Be Considerate of Coastal Communities: We love our coastal communities, so respect them by not leaving plastic litter.

The best way to Leave No Trace is to stop waste at its source! While it can be hard to stop using plastic entirely, eliminating single-use plastics and reusing what you have goes a long way.

Land managers don't want to close trails, cap permits, or add more rules. They do it when overuse forces their hand. Every person who packs out their trash, stays on the trail, and gives wildlife space is part of why a place stays open instead of getting locked down.

Every time we gather outdoors, we have an opportunity to make a difference.
