The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is often called the โ100 Deadliest Daysโ for teen drivers.
With school out and more teens on the road, crash rates increase significantly during the summer months.
Parents, now is a great time to reinforce safe habits:
โ No phones
โ Limit passengers
โ Slow down
โ Always buckle up
Safe driving starts with preparation and practice.

Most crashes donโt happen because teens donโt know the rules โ they happen because of split-second decisions.
Distraction, speeding, and inattention can turn a normal drive into a dangerous situation in seconds.
The safest drivers arenโt just the ones who know the rules โ theyโre the ones who stay focused and think ahead.

With warmer weather, more people are out walking, biking, and crossing streets especially in neighborhoods and near parks.
Drivers should:
โ Slow down in residential areas
โ Watch for sudden movement (kids, pets, bikes)
โ Always yield to pedestrians
Many of these situations happen quickly, awareness is key.

๐ Driving Myth
Myth: โShort trips are safer.โ
Reality: Most crashes happen close to home, on familiar roads where drivers tend to let their guard down.
Comfort can lead to distraction, missed signs, or slower reaction times.
๐ก Safe driving habits matter every time you get behind the wheel โ no matter how short the trip.

๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Parent Reality
Teaching your teen to drive is one of the most stressful parenting milestones.
Youโre not just teaching them how to steer or park โ youโre helping them make decisions in real-time situations where safety matters.
That first solo drive? Itโs a mix of pride and nerves.
Thatโs why structured driver education and professional instruction can make a huge difference โ for both teens and parents.
Weโre here to support families every step of the way โ from the classroom to behind the wheel and the driving test.

Correct Answer: C
Backing vehicles may not see you โ especially in residential areas. Defensive drivers anticipate movement and slow down early to stay in control.

๐ From the Instructorโs Seat
โOne of the most common mistakes new drivers make? Following too closely.โ
Sgt. Cabot sees this daily โ and itโs one of the leading causes of rear-end crashes. Many new drivers underestimate how much space they actually need to react.
At higher speeds, even a 1โ2 second delay can make the difference between stopping safely and a collision.
๐ก Aim for at least a 3-second following distance โ and more in traffic or poor weather.
Our Behind-the-Wheel lessons help permitted students practice a safe following distance and real-world driving experience.

๐ฆ Heads up, Colorado drivers!
The Express Lanes Safety and Toll Enforcement Program (STEP) is launching soon from Berthoud to Fort Collins, and itโs important to know when itโs safe (and legal) to enter or exit.
โ Dashed lines = you can enter/exit
โ Dashed + solid line = only cross if the dashed line is on your side
โ Solid line on your side = do NOT cross
Crossing solid lines isnโt just unsafe โ it can result in a $75 civil penalty.
Learn the rules, drive with confidence, and keep our roads safer for everyone.
