With school out and more teens on the road, crash rates increase significantly during the summer months.
Parents, now is a great time to reinforce safe habits:

✔ Always buckle up

With warmer weather, more people are out walking, biking, and crossing streets especially in neighborhoods and near parks.
Drivers should:
✔ Slow down in residential areas
✔ Watch for sudden movement (kids, pets, bikes)
✔ Always yield to pedestrians
Many of these situations happen quickly, awareness is key.

“One of the most common mistakes new drivers make? Following too closely.”
Sgt. Cabot sees this daily — and it’s one of the leading causes of rear-end crashes. Many new drivers underestimate how much space they actually need to react.
At higher speeds, even a 1–2 second delay can make the difference between stopping safely and a collision.
💡 Aim for at least a 3-second following distance — and more in traffic or poor weather.
