Should AI be allowed at school? (The Morning Show) 08/28/2024

Check out Michael McQueen on Australia's The Morning Show in a few minutes bring insight, wisdom, clarity, and compassion into the reality of how students and educators (including me BTW) use AI.

Honestly, it's just another thing students can point to: 1) adults holding students to standards they don't hold themselves to 2) not having nuanced discussions about important topics.

I am not taking away from the real challenges we have as we technology continues to change the way we learn. But no matter how much technology advances and "progress" is made how we manage ourselves in groups and create a sense of belonging wherever we learn is essential. And having honest curious conversations about how we learn is a fundamental part of that.

Hi Cultures family! We are going to post educational posts for a little longer while people migrate over to Rosalind Wiseman's socials (which you can find here at linktr.ee/rosalindnwiseman)

In the meantime, here is an amazing newish book we are recommending!

Ulcca Joshi Hansen BRILLIANT book, The Future of Smart asks the essential question: Is education a process of molding children to certain economic and political systems? Or is it about helping young people become fully themselves and develop their personhood and their human capabilities--empathy, compassion, collaboration, communication?

How a school, community, state, and nation answer that question, and even more importantly, define what this question means to them is what my work in education is about.

Ulcca's answer is not only a history lesson in how we got here but also shows a practical way forward to transformation.

Pretty cool stuff. Even cooler for me is Ulcca lives near me (yep that's me at lunch with her and Lindsay Prendergast last week) AND she is speaking in the international school world! If you have a chance to hear her speak, like at East Asia Regional Council of Schools this fall you are very lucky!

Setting boundaries in the classroom is essential for creating a positive and productive learning environment! 🧑‍🏫

Setting boundaries involves establishing clear guidelines and expectations for behavior, communication, and interaction between yourself and your students.

By defining these boundaries, you can promote dignity, responsibility, and accountability among your students, while also ensuring their own well-being and professional integrity. ✍️
