On average… any new build multi-family dwelling will contain 50 or more units.

ON AVERAGE… the local fire department is not ready for this type of fire, this type of search, this type of evacuation, or this level of rescue resources.

ON AVERAGE… the response from the fire department will be underprepared, undertrained, understaffed, and/or under equipped.

ON AVERAGE… a building of this profile is being built in your response area… and unfortunately the tactics will mirror that of a single family dwelling due to pure lack of education and/or understanding of the ever changing district that we all work in.

YES, the 2.5 gal water CAN is an attack compliment as well as a search compliment, and absolutely should be utilized if searching for fire ahead of the line, or if you unexpectedly come across extension while searching for life. However, TO OFTEN a gentleman of fire may inadvertently blow their load when presented with the provocative occasion…. AND the last thing you want to do when you’re pack’in a 29 pound silver bullet of wonder is bust too early…

If you want to secure the room, act like a gentleman, give it a quick hit, then redirect and PAINT THE DOOR!!! They love that sh*t…

Your job as the CAN man isn’t to extinguish… your job is to confine… the quick hit should occur while you have full pressure and reach of the CAN, then close the door, and use the remainder to paint the seems, call for an additional line and continue your search.

Full throttle can agreeably apply in most circumstances… however having the ability to perform at full throttle comes from confidence, and confidence is built on reps. Foundational competence is the root of confidence and the ability to perform without a thought… it become a reaction… a product of someone that has put in thousands of reps… and in the reps the candidate has an obsession for detail. They lay it out in their mind, they walk through it over and over again, they watch it fail, they try something else and do it again… and again… and again… to a self inflicted sadistic level…. They appreciate the sweat and blood that it took to get it perfect… and come time for ex*****on, will without a doubt fu***ng DELIVER!!!!

Probably one of the most underrated things we endorse carrying in your pocket. NOT in the application of technical rescue… NERDS… but in the application of being a versatile catchall for a wide range of deployments. The pocket Prussik paired with a non-locking carabiner in the sense of fire ground operations can by applied as a ladder tie off, a hose tie off, a quick dirty drag loop, an SCBA conversion alternative, a hand tool tie off, a short self-rescue step, and the list goes on…

IT’S NOT FOR EVERYBODY… and that’s okay… but with the assumption of someone that consistently works on a minimally staffed Engine, Truck, or Rescue the a short loop can become an asset and give you the advantage in a challenging task.
