Wow, what an amazing turnout yesterday for the monthly Babywearing hike and carrier clinic 😍. I lost count at 24 people!

So many strong and brave mamas, and even a few papas joined us this time! I'm so glad I decided to start hosting hikes again, even if I'm the odd one out without a baby 😂. I'm always so impressed at those who are willing to get out and try hard things. Everything is hard with a newborn, but getting outside is so worth the effort!

What a joy it is to support and empower new parents in their journey through Babywearing!

A reflection on the ages and stages of babywearing from this Mama and Babywearing Educator.

I found these sweet photos of my oldest on one of our early hikes and it got me thinking about our babywearing journey. He is about 7 weeks old in these first two photos, but will turn 6 this year! And while I work with families of all stages, I do find that these four are a common time when parents need help with carriers. It is such a joy to carry and connect with our babies over the years. If you're at a point where you need help or guidance, I'm here to help. Let me tell you, I have been there!

Consultations available in person (in the Boulder area) and virtually.

1) 6-8 weeks (photos 1+2): you're just starting to use your carrier regularly and get out of the house more. This is a common time to notice poor fit for you and/or your baby. We are using the LilleBaby Complete All Seasons.

2) Forward facing out/back carry(photo 3): your rapidly developing baby is curious about the world. You're looking for guidance on how to safely use different positions and may need a carrier to accommodate a heavier baby. This may crop up as soon as 4 months, but typically babies cannot be worn facing out or on the back until closer to five or six months. We are using the LilleBaby Complete All Seasons, but this is probably my least favorite carrier for this stage (lessons learned...).

3) 18 months (photos 4+5): you may be outgrowing your infant carrier, and need help navigating whether it's time for a toddler carrier. Here you can see the Happy Baby Original Being used in a front carry, and a back carry.

4) Preschool and Tandem wearing (photo 6): Last photo shows me attempting to tandem carry my almost four year old and infant, lol. Not my finest babywearing moment. When a new baby joins the family, or your child ages, you often will have different needs for a carrier, or for two that can be worn in tandem.

Join us for a group hike and carrier-clinic every month in the Boulder area. Hikes are lead by Sarah Hieb, Babywearing Consultant, Yoga Teacher, Mama, and lover of the outdoors.

Carrier fit help will be available before the hike begins, so you are confident before we hit the trail!
