Our educational programs are globally recognized by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), for ages 12 months through 12 years. AMI is the organization that is tasked with the responsibility of maintaining the integrity of Maria Montessori's legacy. More than 230 children and adults came together for our International Peace Day celebration, beginning by creating a human peace sign across our back field. ☮️

Our Primary, Elementary, and Adolescent students formed the center and arms of the peace sign, while our infants and toddlers joined their families, teachers, and community in the great circle surrounding them.

Looking at this image, the symbolism feels especially powerful. Our children are quite literally at the heart of it all, with every level of our school coming together as one community: the youngest among us held within the circle, older children creating the symbol of peace at its center, and the adults surrounding them all with love, encouragement, and belief in who they are becoming.

It feels like Montessori’s vision of peace made visible: the child at the center, the community gathered around them, and hope radiating outward. 🌍

🍂 Turns out, the best classroom has a pretty spectacular view.
Colorado is showing off, and our adolescents are learning right in the middle of it. 🍁⛰️🚂

Colorado is more than our backdrop. It’s our classroom — where learning stretches beyond four walls, away from screens, and into the places, people, and stories that surround us.

Yesterday, our adolescents caught the first brilliant glimpses of fall as their classroom stretched into the Colorado mountains for a day of learning at the Georgetown Loop and Lebanon Silver Mine.

As part of their current Intercession exploring migration and the movement of peoples, students went underground and back in time, examining the forces that have moved people across landscapes for generations: resources, work, opportunity, transportation, geography, and the promise of building a life somewhere new.

But the learning reaches even deeper. Mining opens conversations about geology, labor, economics, engineering, human impact on the land, and the rise of Colorado’s mountain communities. The railroad tells another story: how transportation changed where people could go, where communities could grow, and how people and resources became connected across challenging terrain.

This is adolescence at The Farmstead: away from screens, beyond the walls of a classroom, learning directly from people, places, history, and the land beneath their feet.

And on a September day when the aspens are just beginning to turn? 🍁 There is something pretty extraordinary about getting to grow up, explore, and learn right here in Colorado.

The colors may have been vibrant, but so was the learning. 💛

This is Montessori for adolescence. 🌱

At Farmstead, learning is meant to be lived.

It’s rigorous academics connected to meaningful questions. It’s caring for animals, growing food, creating, researching, writing, exploring, problem-solving, and contributing to a community. It’s adventure, responsibility, independence, friendship, and work that has a real purpose.

Here, the classroom extends far beyond four walls. Adolescents are given the freedom to discover who they are, the structure to develop genuine competence, and the opportunity to see that their ideas, choices, and contributions matter.

This is an environment intentionally designed for adolescence — where meaningful academics meet purposeful work, where independence grows through responsibility, and where young people are deeply known as they prepare for what comes next.

Spending the morning with Nichole, our Early Childhood Education Director (Nido & YCC), was the perfect way to start our Friday and head into the weekend. We are so grateful for the experience, wisdom, and warmth she brings to our community, and for the thoughtful ways she supports our children, families, and educators. 💛

🌱 From the land, to the market, to the community.

Today, our Farmstead adolescents brought their harvest to market! 🥔🥬🌶️

In Montessori’s vision for the adolescent, meaningful work is not separate from learning. Through the Erdkinder experience, adolescents engage in place-based learning and meaningful work with the land, discovering firsthand how their efforts connect to the needs of a larger community.

The Farmstead microeconomy brings that learning to life. Students plant, tend, harvest, prepare, price, market, and sell the fruits of their work, integrating mathematics, science, economics, communication, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and stewardship along the way.

Today, that cycle came full circle as our community gathered at the Farm Stand to support their work. 🌾💛

This is Montessori adolescent education: purposeful work, connection to place, participation in a real economy, and learning deeply rooted in real life.
