Payam Music Payam Music is where students fall in love with piano. Sign up for a free in-person or online piano lesson!

Just as a child learns to speak before reading or writing, we introduce piano in a natural, intuitive way to build confidence from day one. At Payam Music, we’re transforming the way piano is taught. While traditional methods have remained unchanged since Mozart’s era, our revolutionary curriculum enables students to learn faster and more effectively. Our students consistently outperform national averages, with 95% reaching diploma level in just 4-5 years, compared to the national average of 1-2% over 10-12 years. In 2024, our students competed against over 300,000 participants, taking all 5 top state spots and 4 of the top 14 national spots in the prestigious PTA Reflections competition. We currently operate two locations in Washington and are rapidly expanding, with our third location coming to Irvine soon.

What color is your favorite song? 🎶🎨

Some people see color when they hear music. Do you? It’s called chromesthesia, a form of synesthesia where sounds can automatically trigger the experience of color.

Less than 1% of people experience chromesthesia, but musicians are 4x more likely to see color when they hear music.

Scientists are trying to figure out cause vs effect: do musicians experience higher rates of synesthesia because they play music or because of how their brain is wired? Either way, it's fascinating!

At our Compose with the Pros workshop with Bleeding Fingers Music, Emmy-nominated composer Anže Rozman guided and mentored our students as they transformed their ideas into a shared composition.

Meet the Director of our Bethesda, MD piano school, Katie. 🎹

Katie has a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from Campbell University and graduated summa cm laude. She brings 17 years of teaching experience (across two continents!) to Payam Music. She’s passionate about making piano lessons fun, encouraging, and accessible for every student.

Here’s what the parent of one of her students in Bethesda has to say: My 9 year old loves Payam Music. In his own, unprompted words, “this place is much better at teaching piano. They give you pieces that teach you skills, instead of just the same stuff over and over.”
