You might be wondering what magic is taking place at the Seattle Children's Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center. ABC Director Kimika Green and Faith Eakin, Program Manager with Seattle Children’s Community Health External Affairs Team, recently visited the beautiful Sunset Lake Camp, home of the annual Seattle Children's Hospital Stanley Stamm Camp.

Each summer, Stanley Stamm Camp provides nearly 100 children (Ages 6-14) with chronic medical conditions the opportunity to enjoy a traditional overnight camp experience filled with activities like fishing, horseback riding, outdoor adventures, and new friendships.

Founded by Seattle Children’s heart specialist Dr. Stanley Stamm, the camp is supported by dedicated medical and community volunteers, making it possible for children with complex medical needs to safely experience the magic of summer camp at no cost to families.

During their visit, Kimika and Faith connected with Ursala Schwenn (also pictured), Stanley Stamm Camp Clinical Coordinator, whose passion and leadership help create an inclusive and unforgettable experience for campers and their families.

A huge thank you to the entire Stanley Stamm Camp Team and their Foundation Team for continuing to fund, support, and lead this extraordinary program. The leadership team at the ABC recently had the opportunity to visit the Northshore Wranglers Inclusion Program at the Northshore Senior Center, led by Inclusion Coordinator - Jamie Claypool (pictured with ABC leadership). The visit provided valuable insight into a program dedicated to creating meaningful, inclusive recreational and social opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Through their growing partnership, the Inclusion Program and ABC share a common goal: expanding access to community-based activities, connections, and opportunities that enrich the lives of adults with IDD and their families. Strong partnerships like this are essential to building more inclusive communities, increasing choice and access, and ensuring that individuals of all abilities have opportunities to engage, belong, and thrive. ABC is grateful for the collaboration and looks forward to continuing to work together to support adults with IDD across our region.

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Chris Longhurst, CEO of Seattle Children's to the Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center (ABC)!

As a center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that operates within a pediatric hospital system, ABC is truly one of a kind. Our model represents an innovative approach to supporting adults with IDD while remaining connected to the mission, values, and community of Seattle Children's.

Dr. Longhurst's visit provided an opportunity to share the impact of our programs, introduce him to our incredible participants and staff, and showcase the vibrant community that makes ABC so special. We are grateful that Seattle Children's executive leaders take the time to experience firsthand the meaningful work happening at our center every day.

Last month, our very own Danny Diaz had the opportunity to meet Cara at the Woodinville Chamber Business Luncheon, and we're so excited that connection has already led to meaningful conversations about future collaboration. Together, we explored ways our organizations can work alongside one another to strengthen opportunities for individuals and families in our community.

💙 Last week, ABC Director Kimika Green had the pleasure of attending A Night Out with Kindering, an inspiring evening dedicated to celebrating community, connection, and the incredible impact Kindering has on children and families across our region.

A special thank you to Kristina Mendieta, Chief Advancement Officer at Kindering, for the invitation and for bringing together such an amazing community of supporters.

Kindering provides early intervention, therapies, education, and family support services for children of diverse abilities, helping them build the skills and confidence to thrive.

A special thank you to Tammy Bowen, Advocacy Support Specialist at Work Opportunities and Board President of the Community Employment Alliance, and Chris Guardiano, Job Coach at Work Opportunities, for spending time with us.

Work Opportunities is dedicated to addressing inequities for individuals with disabilities through inclusive employment and community participation, and we are inspired by the impact they continue to make throughout our community. The visit provided an opportunity to share ABC’s mission, exchange ideas, and learn more about the important work Tammy, Chris, and the Work Opportunities team are doing to advance inclusion and opportunity. The conversation highlighted our shared commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and strengthening community connections. 💙 We are excited about the possibilities for future collaboration and grateful to Tammy and Chris for taking the time to visit ABC.

Join us for our annual Summer BBQ! This event will be held at Blyth Park in Bothell on Friday, August 21st from 4:00-6:00 PM.

A ticket must be purchased for every attendee. Ticket price is $20.00 per attendee.
All students must come with at least one caregiver and/or family member. Caregivers and family members must also purchase a ticket.
The RISE Community Guild is hosting a raffle to raise funds for the ABC. You can purchase raffle tickets here or at the BBQ!
All tickets include dinner, drinks, shaved ice, and activities.

Menu: Hamburgers & cheeseburgers, hot dogs, Kimika's jerk chicken wings, salads, fruit, chips, and a trip to the shaved ice truck!
