Providence Distinctives

Every school community, whether public or private, has certain elements unique to the mission and vision of the organization. These can be communicated in writing, but more importantly are tangibly observed and experienced in the day-to-day life of the school. The core distinctives at Providence can summarized in three basic categories:

1. Christian Emphasis – Providence uses a discipleship model of education. Our mission is to partner with Christian parents; that is, we seek to work alongside Christian parents in the education of their children. Every Providence family attends a Christian church (we have over 35 churches represented at the school) and shares the core values of educating their children in the fear and admonition of God’s Word. When both parents and teachers are like-minded in their desire to teach children from a distinctively biblical world and life view, the partnership can flourish.

2. Classical Education – The Trivium-based approach to education provides the structure, the content and the method for educating students. The curriculum is rich in math and science and the liberal arts: history, Latin, literature, logic, music, and rhetoric. Our rigorous curriculum helps students develop into readers and thinkers as they study the great works of the Western World. Students are trained to think clearly and to reason persuasively, learning to seek true knowledge, understanding, and wisdom as found in Jesus Christ.

3. Culture of Discipleship – Education is enculturation to a way of thinking and acting. When all our school families share the core beliefs in the triune God of the Bible, it necessarily impacts school culture: healthy peer relationships, where students across grade levels love and encourage each other to love and good deeds; communal activities and traditions such as Protocol, Reformation Day, and the House system; and high academic and behavior standards, which reflect the common values outlined in God’s Word. Our primary focus is how to live and think as Christians, pursuing virtue in Christ.

Our JV and Varsity volleyball teams are having a fantastic season and tomorrow’s home games will be dedicated to our six seniors and leaders on the court - Evi, Jane, and Nakia (JV), and Sarah, Kate, and Lilli (Varsity)! Buddy Days at Providence between secondary and grammar students are always special, but these high schoolers kicked it up a notch by practicing with their younger counterparts during a recent band rehearsal. We’re loving the fall bustle of classes, drama practice, and music filling our hallways again! Happy October, Providence!

It’s been an exciting start to the school year, and we are filled with purpose and hope now more than ever! Thank you to all who have blessed Providence over the years with your faithful prayers, service, and support. Your love for our school and its students are reflected in the words of our most recent generous donor:

“God is at the center of all that Providence does as a school. We celebrate excellence in academics and athletics, but above all, we celebrate what Christ has done for us on the cross. The faculty at Providence genuinely loves and serves its students, modeling what it means to live a Christ-centered life. Our hope is that these students will one day carry that same faith, character, and commitment into the world and have a lasting impact on the next generation.”

We are humbled and grateful for this opportunity. Thank you for considering how you might further invest in Providence and bless our students, staff and faculty for years and generations to come!

Before his death in 1877, Sir Henry Williams Baker spoke these last words from his hymn based on Psalm 23:

Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.

It is a unique gift and blessing to hear Providence students singing songs and hymns so rich in the knowledge of God’s tender mercies and love. It is an even greater gift to know that their teachers are praying daily for these truths to seep deeply into their hearts and minds, encouraging and equipping them now and all the days of their lives. Soli Deo Gloria!

Our secondary students return home today from their annual retreat at Lakeside Bible Camp! Here’s a snippet from yesterday’s competition put on by House Council. The (bright!) sun came out and warmed up the field just in time for the giant slip n’ slide! More photos and video to come - thankful for the staff and volunteers who supervised and served all week, and for these young adults who exuded joy, love for one another, and honor to the Lord in their time away from home and the classroom. Rest up this weekend, Highlanders!

Our annual golf marathon fundraiser is coming up next Friday, September 18th! Golfers and non-golfers (men and women!) are invited and encouraged to join us for a full day of fun on the course, followed by a catered lunch at Echo Lake Country Club.

Lest the acting prowess of Mr. Evans, Mr. Worley, Mr. Hatcher and Mr. Lukkasson fool you, all proceeds from the golf marathon will go toward our financial aid program benefiting Providence students and families. ✨

Registration closes Sunday - sign up at the link in our bio! Have a question or need an extension? Send us a DM or email [email protected]. Hope to see you there!
