“What was handed down” 5”x7” analog collage on a painted watercolor paper. Paired with the previous collage, but this one is more abstract.
In many South Asian homes, and in many others, a good daughter/daughter-in-law never rests: she cooks, cleans, raises children, and cares for everyone before herself. Because the work is expected, it goes unseen. This collage layers that labor, passed down like a legacy. Free to Rest. Rest is not laziness. I honor the women before me without carrying their burden forward.

“Downtime, Upside Down” 5”x7” analog collage on paper, for Kansas City public library Free To: Free From: A Mail Art Exhibition Exploring Freedoms.

Went on a very short girls trip this past weekend and took all the scraps I had collected from the collage table. All the scraps were left over from people who made the collages and I was collecting them to keep the table clean and thought would put them in the recycle bin later but then decided to keep them to challenge myself in trying to use them. Working in .app ‘s 2026 Astro planner that I never ended up using but too pretty to throw it away!

Part 3 and probably my favorite part of ,the people behind the collages.✂️❤️
I have to admit… because this was my first time hosting something like this in public, I was a little nervous. Okay, maybe more than a little. 😂 I even made a whole list of collage prompts in case people needed ideas. Turns out, they didn’t need them at all. Everyone, fearlessly just dived right in!🙌🏽
All levels of collagists shared the table🥰 And I loved that some folks who found one of my mini collage cards along the walking route also stopped by to share it with me.🥹 Swipe to see all the collages made by everyone and folks who found the cards!

Part 2 of ! After installing the art along the walking route, I ended the day with a free drop-in collage session at the finish line in Occidental Square. The idea was simple: give people a place to sit down, catch their breath, get their hands busy and make something✂️
I brought all the materials and invited folks to make 1–2 collages to take home with them. No right or wrong way to do it. Just sit down, cut, arrange, glue and see what happens.
And I loved watching people who had arrived as strangers end up sharing materials, ideas and conversations around the table.🥰🥳✂️
Part 3 coming next! A look at all the little artworks people made. 👀

So many pics and videos from yesterday’s event that I still haven’t gone through all of it and to make this less overwhelming for me, I’m just going to share everything in parts😅 So this is Part 1 which is the installation of all the cards on different street signs, buildings, trees, park benches, famous Seattle sculptures and spots! I’ve always loved giving overlooked things a second chance.
These tiny collages began as scraps found on Seattle streets, a torn poster, an old bill, a scrap of paper. Nothing special and most people would walk right past, until you look again! I saw 60 tiny pieces of art waiting to happen, each completely one-of-a-kind.✂️🥳
Find these all throughout the walking route on Saturday Sept 19th, starting from Westlake Ave and ending in Occidental square. 11am-7:30pm.
