Speed Dating: BASIS Independent Bothell faculty edition 💕
 
For our PD day last Friday, every teacher showed up with one thing about teaching that really excites them: a favorite project to assign, a go-to classroom game, a teaching tool they swear by. Five minutes to present, then rotate. We left with a lot of new ideas and a few new teaching crushes 😉
 
The day also included a Joy in the Classroom workshop led by Ms. Carter and Ms. Schroeder, a perfect fit for our Year Two theme ✨

Our Grade 8 class put their reading skills on trial! After reading a short story in class, students held a mock trial. They argued the case, questioned witnesses, and built their arguments from evidence in the text. 📚👩‍⚖️

Looking back on our Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations! 🏮🌕

Last week, students across grade levels took part in activities to celebrate the holiday:

🌙 Kindergarten made moon plates
🥮 Grade 1 created mooncake crafts with Magic Foam
🏮 Grade 2 made Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns
🎨 Grade 3 painted Chinese-style paintings of mooncakes
👩‍🍳 Grade 4 and Grade 8 made real mooncakes
📚 Grade 7 taught Mid-Autumn Festival vocabulary to our kindergarteners
 
What a wonderful week! We love celebrating cultural holidays together, especially when they bring our students’ Mandarin learning to life. 🥮✨

Fall/Winter sports and clubs are officially underway! 🍂⚽🏐

From Kindergarten up, every student has the chance to join an after-school program, and our Middle Schoolers can even lead a club of their own! Whether they’re trying something brand new or leveling up in a favorite activity, there’s a place for everyone.

In this video: kung fu, rhythmic gymnastics, clay studio, math competition club, mini game coders, competitive volleyball, and competitive soccer!

Our Grade 4 engineers are building popsicle stick bridges with one goal: strong enough to hold a kindergartener. 🌉💪 So they did what real engineers do and gathered data. This week they visited our KC class to find the average kinder weight to design against (bridges will be tested with weights, not actual kindergarteners!). PreK meets Grade 4, math meets engineering. This is what PreK–12 learning looks like. 🧮🔧

Huge congrats to Caden C. (‘37) and Arvy K. (‘38) for helping lead Sound FC’s Boys U8A soccer team to an undefeated championship run at the Zipfizz Cup Soccer Tournament! ⚽️🏆
 
This team brought incredible teamwork, grit, and pure love for the game all tournament long. Congrats to Caden and Arvy for working together to bring home the Zipfizz Cup!
