emersonWRITES is a FREE creative writing program for students in Greater Boston High Schools. our FACULTY are practicing writers and devoted teachers.

emersonWRITES is a free creative writing program for students in Greater Boston High Schools, co-sponsored by the First-Year Writing Program and the Office of Enrollment at Emerson College. emersonWRITES is guided by the principle that writing is essential to intellectual engagement, self-representation, and access to opportunity. In college-style courses held on Emerson’s campus, emersonWRITES st

udents practice writing and critical thinking skills. They shape a community of young writers whose individual voices respond to the world through the written word. our STUDENTS represent a diverse range of high schools throughout Boston. They also come to emersonWRITES for a diversity of reasons: to improve their general writing skills, to prepare for college level writing, or to develop a creative and confident voice in writing stories, poems, plays, news articles or college admissions essays. Having come to Emerson College to pursue their MFAs in writing, they understand the impact writing can make within communities large and small. They bring the expertise of their own craft into the classroom, and have been trained in Emerson’s First-Year Writing Program to teach college writing.
