🎉 BPE turns 40, and we are celebrating the champions who helped make Boston a national model for urban education.
Today, we are proud to recognize Charles “Chad” Gifford as part of our 40th Birthday Bash. Chad serves as Board Chair for BPE and has been a longtime champion of Boston’s business, civic, cultural, and nonprofit communities.
Chad is Chairman Emeritus of Bank of America. Beyond his corporate leadership, Chad has been a steadfast advocate for Boston’s economic vitality, cultural institutions, and nonprofit sector. He has served on numerous boards, including the Red Sox Foundation and Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and has been a strong advocate for diversity, integrity, and community engagement.
In addition to his 34 years of service on the BPE’s Board, Chad previously led the United Way of Massachusetts Bay’s “Success By 6” initiative, is an honorary trustee of The Massachusetts General Hospital, and past chairman of The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. His commitment to education, civic leadership, and opportunity has helped shape BPE’s work and impact over the past four decades.
Join us as we celebrate Chad and all the educators, leaders, and partners who have made the last 40 years possible.

This week, our residents are immersed in their second unit planning session. They're focused on clear student learning outcomes, acceptable evidence, and the learning plan, guided by the question, “What are the desired results?” Residents will collect data through formative and summative assessments to track student progress toward learning goals and inform instructional decisions.
