As you prepare for the first day, don’t forget to check your school’s arrival and dismissal times. Each BPS school sets its own bell schedule, so make sure you have the right times for your student(s).

The 19th annual Boston Public Schools Summer Graduation Ceremony took place last week at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center. This celebration honors BPS students who weren’t able to participate in their school’s Commencement ceremonies in June as well as those who dedicated their summer to completing their coursework to become proud members of the Class of 2026.

Through summer school, credit recovery, and other summer learning opportunities, these students demonstrated resilience, determination, and a strong commitment to their future.

This summer, 219 students representing 30 high schools received their diplomas. One hundred twenty three of them attended the ceremony, with BPS officials, Boston School Committee members, elected officials, parents and families and school staff cheering them on.

A vital partner in this success is the BPS Office of Secondary Schools, which houses programming in Career and Technical Education; Educational Options; International Baccalaureate & Advanced Placement; Early College Programs; School Counseling Services; Postsecondary Initiatives & Partnerships; and the Reengagement Center. BPS established the Office of Secondary Schools to collaborate with leaders and their teams to offer a variety of academic and planning resources, develop strategies to accelerate students’ learning, and open access to advanced coursework and multiple pathways to high school completion and postsecondary entry.

One longtime Boston Public Schools partner has helped shape a beautiful new beginning for the Mary Lyon Elementary School community.

City Year Greater Boston took on a beautification project this summer, arranging for 200-plus volunteers from Bain Capital to participate in transformative days of service in July and August.

Before Boston’s high school students are old enough to cast their first vote they have a unique opportunity to participate in Election Day.

Sixty-Eight Boston Public Schools students participated this year in Boston Election Department Student Poll Workers Program, a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at the electoral process.

The Boston Public Schools AI Educator Ambassadors will help shape the future of teaching and learning!

BPS welcomed the inaugural cohort of ambassadors Tuesday: 25 educators who represent 25 BPS secondary schools. Over the course of the next year, they will explore how AI can enhance instruction, strengthen educator practice, and prepare students to use emerging technologies ethically and responsibly.

This work builds on BPS's ongoing leadership in AI and is supported through a partnership with Paul English Applied Artificial Intelligence InstitutePaul English Applied AI Institute, TWG Education Labs and Day of AI. Together we’ve launched the BPS AI Literacy initiative to better equip BPS students and educators with the skills, curriculum, and opportunities to be proficient with AI, excel in the local workforce, and access greater economic opportunities in an evolving economy.
