This past week, Sargent’s sophomore class hosted the Rose Banquet, an annual banquet held in honor of the first year students, welcoming them to Sargent and the school’s unique traditions. 🌹

After the banquet, sophomores circulate a rose to the first-year students at each table. Each student removes a petal from the rose and places it in a box, which is saved until the class graduates and the petals are scattered. This symbolizes their growth during their time together at Sargent.

Welcome to all our first year students, and thank you to our sophomores!

This past weekend at the Sargent College Alumni Awards was an exciting one. Congratulations to Professor Marijane Staniec for being awarded the prestigious Twiness Award!

The Twiness Award is presented to the alumnus or alumna who exemplifies high standards of character, professionalism, and ongoing service to advance the mission of Sargent College. If you know Professor Staniec, you know she leads with all of these important qualities (and then some!) and it shows in her contributions to the school. Congratulations!

Professor O’Brien, on behalf of the American Society of Enteral and Parental Nutrition (ASPEN Nutrition), requested a proclamation to declare this week Malnutrition Awareness Week from Governor Maura Healey (Governor Maura Healey). We thank Governor Healey for her support as proclamations can lead to policy discussions and raise public awareness.

Pictured here with the proclamation is SAR HS 704 Essentials of Professional Practice where we work on advocating for nutrition care.

Malnutrition is more than just not eating enough, and it doesn’t always look the same.

During Malnutrition Awareness Week, we’re raising awareness about the importance of recognizing, preventing, and treating malnutrition.
Malnutrition Awareness Week, led by ASPEN, is an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about malnutrition, promoting early recognition and treatment, and highlighting the importance of nutrition care.

This year’s theme is “Nutrition Care Is a Team Effort.”

Whether you’re a patient, family member, bystander, or healthcare professional, you can help by speaking up, recognizing concerns, and advocating for nutrition to be part of the patient’s care. Swipe to learn more about malnutrition, the signs to look for, why it matters, and how we can all help.

Hi everyone, my name is Maddie Bicknell, and I am the new social assistant! I recently started the Master’s section of the BU MS/DI program. I did my undergrad at UMass Amherst, where I double majored in Nutrition and Kinesiology. I am from a small town around 45 minutes outside of Boston, so I have yet to venture out of Massachusetts!

I chose BU because I loved how the program combines rigorous nutrition education with real-world experiences. I’m most excited to grow my clinical skills, learn from amazing professionals, and challenge myself to take the next step toward becoming an RDN!

I’m so excited to create, share, and manage content that highlights our nutrition program, celebrates our students, faculty, and community, and keeps everyone engaged!
