AIAS is especially concerned with increasing the numbers of scholars in the United States who have expertise in, and understanding of Afghanistan, and to assist in the rebuilding of academic institutions and the advanced study of Afghanistan by Afghan scholars.

The Hail Mary of Power-Sharing in Afghanistan 04/29/2021

AIAS is proud to share two new publications our President and Kabul Director co-authored.

First, AIAS President Dr. Thomas Barfield co-authored "Bringing Multilateralism Back in: Ending the War in Afghanistan is Not a One-Nation Job" (https://www.usip.org/sites/default/files/Afghanistan-Peace-Process_Bringing-Multilateralism-Back.pdf)

Secondly, AIAS Kabul Director Dr. Omar Sharifi co-authored "The Hail Mary of Power-Sharing in Afghanistan" (https://nationalinterest.org/feature/hail-mary-power-sharing-afghanistan-181178)

Please find each publication attached at the individual links.

The Hail Mary of Power-Sharing in Afghanistan In a multi-ethnic nation such as Afghanistan where all other types of autocracy have failed, a democratic and decentralized system of governance is perhaps the only remaining option.
