In Memoriam
Boston Latin School remembers with gratitude two longtime educators, Sarah Ann Mitchell, who taught mathematics, and Hilary John Po***ck, who taught Latin. Together, they gave more than 60 years of service to BLS and generations of its students.
Their subjects were different, but their legacy was shared: the profound and enduring reach of a great teacher.
We extend our deepest sympathies to their families, friends, colleagues, and former students.

Two Boston Latin School alumni are part of New Balance’s latest celebration of its hometown.

Actress, writer, comedian, and director Ayo Edebiri ’13, recently named a New Balance brand ambassador, returned to Boston Latin School for part of the new campaign. She was joined by friends Ashley Guillaume, Mary Nguyen, and Sydney Kyne, making the photographs as much about coming home and reconnecting as they are about place.

Elsewhere in New Balance’s recent work, Ken Gloss ’68, proprietor of Boston’s Brattle Book Shop, appears with his wife in the company’s Made in USA campaign.

The two alumni graduated from BLS 45 years apart and followed remarkably different paths. But each has remained connected to Boston, and each is now part of a campaign that looks to the people, places, and institutions that help define the city.

We are especially glad to see Boston Latin School itself among those places — and two generations of BLS alumni helping tell the story.

What do Ayo Edebiri ’13 and Kenneth Gloss ’68 have in common?

Boston Latin School — and, now, New Balance.
If you’ve been noticing a distinctly Boston flavor to New Balance lately, you may also have noticed two familiar BLS connections.

Award-winning actress, writer, comedian, and director Ayo Edebiri ’13 has been named New Balance’s newest ambassador, launching the partnership with a campaign celebrating the Boston that shaped her.

And over at one of Boston’s most beloved institutions, Brattle Book Shop proprietor Kenneth Gloss ’68 is featured in New Balance’s Made in USA campaign.

Nearly half a century separates their BLS graduations. Their paths could hardly be more different. Yet here they are, each part of a campaign celebrating the people, places, character, and stories of Boston.

We love seeing a little purple woven into all that New Balance gray. 💜

On June 8, beneath a canopy of purple and gold along Boston’s waterfront, the Boston Latin School Class of 2026 crossed the stage and joined a tradition nearly four centuries in the making.

From the opening notes of the Symphonic Band to the final toss of mortarboards, the evening celebrated far more than academic achievement. It honored years of hard work, intellectual curiosity, friendship, resilience, and growth.

As the nation’s oldest public school prepares to enter its 392nd year, we congratulate the newest members of the Boston Latin School alumni community. We cannot wait to see where their talents, character, and ambition lead next.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. We are proud of all you have accomplished—and excited for all that is yet to come.
