Now You See

Today we congratulate Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Pamelia Harris on her retirement and we thank for her many years of tenacious advocacy for justice and for victims of crime. We will miss you, but know that Boston University is lucky to now have you as part of their team.

Listening to and learning from survivors is one of the most effective ways to improve systems and responses to child abuse and sexual assault. We are so grateful to Abigail, Adriana, Lina, and Sophia, and thank them for sharing their journeys through disclosure at this year’s MACA conference.

Thank you to Catherine McGuane from the Criminal Bureau at mass_ago for being a constant advocate for survivors, and for highlighting their voices this week while speaking with students at Boston University. As we continued to recognize Child Abuse, Sexual Assault, and Victim Rights Awareness Month, we thank Catherine and everyone pictured here for standing with and supporting Yaraya, Brianna, and all survivors of abuse.

Today, on this 7th day of Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, survivors, supporters, professionals, and elected officials gathered together at the Massachusetts State House to honor all who have been affected by abuse. We are so grateful to Dacia and Pat for their remarks and advocacy, for Saraliz, Abigail, Adriana, Brian, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Henrique, our leaders who were there and welcomed others, and to everyone in the room for being part of this special day. “I am glad that I was able to speak up for myself and others.” On Victim Witness Advocate Claire Coen’s last day in the Suffolk County DA’s Office, she holds Nissy’s piece and supports her, just as she did through the criminal justice process. Thank you to Nissy, Claire, and everyone who is in the fight against child abuse, sexual assault, and exploitation.

Nissy was exploited by someone in a position of trust. Today, we welcome her to and celebrate her courage.

This week, the Suffolk County DA Investigator Team attended a training on and discussed best responses to child abuse and sexual assault. We thank them for the work they do and for standing with all survivors of abuse.
