Dan O'Brien, Director of the Boston Area Research Initiative, and Professor of Public Policy and Criminology, is releasing “Urban Informatics: Using Big Data to Understand and Serve Communities,” in hardcopy on December 8. The textbook teaches the fundamental skills of urban informatics, or the use of data to better understand and serve communities. Urban Informatics integrates technical and conceptual skills, guiding readers to make informed decisions about the interpretation of data and their analysis and visualization.
Real-world examples used in the textbook are drawn from the Boston Area Research Initiative’s Boston Data Portal. “This book is designed to support learners who would like to leverage data science for the purpose of having public impact,” writes O’Brien in the preface. Urban Informatics is the first textbook to cover this subject. To purchase the physical copy visit routledge.com. Chapman Hall / CRC Press
