The Communication Analysis and Design Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research group that combines work on speech communication and human-computer interaction. Located in the Forsyth Building, our lab is a part of the Bouve College of Health Sciences and the College of Computer and Information Sciences. Our students and researchers come from diverse disciplines including speech and hearing scie

nces, behavioral neuroscience, electrical engineering, graphic design and computer science. A central focus of our work is the study of prosody — the melody of spoken communication. We study how prosody is produced and understood in typically developing children, healthy adults and individuals with neurological speech disorders. Our team applies these basic research findings toward the design of novel human-computer interfaces for assistive technology, language learning, and intervention tools.
