North End Music & Performing Arts Center Music education, theatre, dance, and community performances for all ages in Boston’s North End and Charlestown. Learn more at www.nempacboston.org/thenextact.

Rooted in the North End of Boston, NEMPAC's mission is to enrich lives through exceptional, accessible music education and performing arts programs that are as vibrant, diverse, and inclusive as our communities. The non-profit organization empowers artists of all ages and abilities between its community music school to its professional performing arts center. Most recently, the organization was aw

arded a building from the City of Boston and Mayor Walsh located at 50 Tileston Street and transformed this 18th-century historic building into a new NEMPAC Music Center, a state-of-the-art, public facility. A group of North End mothers founded NEMPAC in 2001 to create musical programming for their children. In 2004, the Robert White Foundation donated to NEMPAC their city-operated space located off the Prado (The Paul Revere Mall) In the North End. This space, consisting of 4 private music studios, a storage basement, and an office, is where we began to flourish. Today, we serve over 1,493 students per week through our education programs and partnerships, including the Boston Public Schools, the Charlestown Working Theater, Boston Festival Orchestra, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. Our concerts make the North End of Boston a destination for arts and culture. As we continue to grow as a Performing Arts Center, we want to ensure we engage our audiences with creative, quality, and innovative programming.

🎻 Meet William Shipley, NEMPAC’s new Strings Director at South End Village Academy (SEVA)!

We are thrilled to welcome William to SEVA, one of NEMPAC’s school partner program sites. This year, he will introduce new students to the world of strings on Tuesdays and welcome back returning students on Wednesdays for another year of musical growth.

A violist, violinist, educator, and multi-instrumentalist, William brings an impressive breadth of performance and teaching experience to NEMPAC. Originally from Arkansas, he performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles and collaborated with artists including Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, Smokey Robinson, and the Ying Quartet.

Since moving to Boston in 2018, William has maintained a busy teaching and performance career throughout Greater Boston. While viola is his specialty, you might also find him performing on violin—or exploring his talents as a saxophonist, bassoonist, banjo player, beat maker, and music producer!

🎶 We are excited to have William sharing his passion for music with our SEVA students this year!

✨ Meet our Soirée student performers! ✨

This year’s Cabaret in the City stage will feature some very special performers—NEMPAC students Naia, Kai, Luke, Lucy, Laylah, Silvia, Anna, Sophia, and Una! 💙

Together, they’ll perform “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen and “When I Grow Up” from Matilda as part of this year’s Soirée celebration.

These talented young performers were also part of a NEMPAC first this summer: our inaugural Summer Musical Theatre Troupe production program! In just three weeks, the students worked together to rehearse and put on an incredible 50-minute musical production 🎭🎶

We’re so proud of everything they accomplished and can’t wait to see them take the stage once again at Cabaret in the City on September 24!

Join us in celebrating our students and supporting the arts education programs that give young performers opportunities to learn, grow, collaborate, and shine.

✨ Experience Cabaret in the City ✨

This year’s Soirée on the Prado is more than a fundraiser—it’s an unforgettable night of music, glamour, and celebration in the heart of Boston’s North End.

Taking the stage are two incredible vocalists bringing the spirit of cabaret to life:

🎙️ Becca Allen — a New York-based mezzo-soprano bringing classical, theatrical, and cabaret artistry to favorites including Send in the Clowns, Maybe This Time, and Non, je ne regrette rien.

🎙️ Daon Drisdom — a tenor and New England Conservatory graduate whose dynamic artistry spans opera, jazz, spirituals, and the Black music repertoire, featuring Willkommen, September Song, and I Am What I Am.

New to cabaret? Think intimate live entertainment where music, storytelling, and personality come together to create something you won’t experience anywhere else ✨

And the night doesn’t end on the Prado. After the Soirée, join us at Mia Roof Deck for the official after-party with city views, drinks, and more time to celebrate.

Come for the cause. Stay for the cabaret. Keep the party going.

📅 Thursday, September 24
✨ Soirée | 6–9 PM | The Prado, North End
🥂 After-Party | 9–11 PM | Mia Roof Deck

Tickets are on sale now! Visit the link in our bio to join us for Cabaret in the City and support NEMPAC’s music and performing arts programming.
