Still glowing from last Saturday’s Open Mic 🙂 Thanks so much to everyone who came out, performed, donated, helped with load out, and held space together with skill, power, and heritage. Honored to be in creative community with you!
We blew past our fundraising goal! Yay! Thanks for your donations that will allow us to split $1,250 between Alia and her family in Gaza, as well as WTMA’s LGBTQ+/BIPoC Scholarship.
Thanks also to The Boston Foundation’s “Free For All” Grant! With their generous help, we can pay our artists, cover costs, and then all of your donations count as profit that we can put into mutual aid and scholarships. Living the dream!
Totally blown away by the elegant beauty of Rona’s ASL interpreting - thanks so much for taking this on, even interpreting some songs on the fly! Thanks also to Quinn Gutman, Kat Skafidas, and Erin Bartuska for all of your help planning this event, to Kyle Seniw for working sound/stage, and to Marcie for accompanying. Big thanks to Songs of Liberation for our incredibly uplifting, heart-encompassing music, and to Somerville Community Growing Center for hosting us again in your absolutely beautiful space.
If you’d like to help us grant more scholarships for Gender Affirming Voice and other music lessons to LGBTQ+/BIPoC students in financial need, you can Venmo us , or Cashapp: $WholeToneAcademy
Also be sure to follow Alia and donate to her family’s survival if at all you can.
So much gratitude for all of you!

WholeTone Music Academy Presents Strings Who Sing at The Rockwell in Davis Square
A novel chamber ensemble featuring original music by Flight Or Visibility!
Tuesday, June 16, 2026 | 7:30 PM 🎻
Composer Raf Natan (aka Flight Or Visibility), a WholeTone Music Academy (WTMA) instructor, leads the performance of these innovative Singing String Quartet pieces on violin and lead voice. Completing the quartet are Nora Maynard (WTMA Director) as a violist and soprano, violinist Clara Rose, and cellist Valerie Thompson. All projects by Strings Who Sing are collaborations honoring multiple traditions while creating something entirely new.
Inspired by the legacies of Rhiannon Giddens, Abel Selacoe, Carla Kihlstedt, and Laurie Anderson, Strings Who Sing features an ensemble of four singer-songwriters who accompany themselves on bowed string instruments. This project is the longtime dream of Boston-based artist and organizer Flight Or Visibility, who has written most of the music for the ensemble. With up to 4 vocal notes and 8 string notes happening simultaneously at any given moment, the singing string quartet provides unique sonic textures ranging from minimalist, vulnerable threads of melody, to lush, orchestral soundscapes. This concert will be Strings Who Sing’s live performance debut!
This free event is produced with generous support from The Boston Foundation’s “Free For All” Grant, as well as Club Passim. WholeTone Music Academy welcomes donations toward our LGBTQIA+ BIPOC scholarship fund.
