Michio Kushi, founder of the institute, who made the macrobiotic and natural foods diet popular in the U.S., died in Boston on Dec. 28.

Thanks to our friend Kezia Snyder who reached out to the New York Times, Michio's obituary published yesterday serves as a wonderful tribute and testament to his life and work.

Mr. Kushi, a Japanese scholar who popularized the macrobiotic diet in the United States, helped to change the way health-conscious Americans eat.

All this is a powerful reminder of the immense impact Michio Kushi had on so many people's lives. Since I am not finding the quietness to write something meaningful right now , I will post for the moment two funny pictures of a trip who have done together in Brasil. We went inside Iguaçu's waterfall and Michio got in the speedboat dressed in a suit with this very, very light raincoat on top. Needless to say he got completely soaked a couple of hours before a lecture. But he loved it and the lecture went very well. This was the spirit of Michio.
