The Huntington/Northeastern News Alumni

The Huntington/Northeastern News Alumni This page is for all Huntington News and Northeastern News alumni to reconect with the paper and each other.

We'll keep you up to date on fundraising events, networking and other ways to keep in touch with the News and your old classmates. For 82 years, The Northeastern News was a major source of news at Northeastern University. Now known as The Huntington News, the paper went independent from the university and relocated its office to a leased space at 295 Huntington Avenue in the summer of 2008. In the

new space, undergraduate students work alongside Northeastern alumni to maintain the high standard of quality the community has come to expect from its student newspaper. The News is published on Thursdays during the fall and spring semesters with more than 50 students contributing to its production. During the summer semesters, it is published every other Wednesday. The News is the most frequently published and well-read publication on campus. It features news, sports, entertainment and editorial sections, as well as a rotating special section with alternating subject matter.

News Alumni, we need your help! Without it, this could be the last year the Huntington News is able to publish. Recent financial trouble and no offer of help from the university (which is rare, even for an independent paper) have put the paper in serious debt. A few of us News alumni have joined the paper's Board of Directors to help make the paper financially sustainable, and have launched a fundraising campaign to secure the future of the News.

Throughout all this, the staff continues to publish journalism with a national reach. Think we're exaggerating? Last year's story on NUPD acquiring semiautomatic rifles started as a News story, and was then picked up by the Globe, and then spread to national publications. This is just one example of the great student journalism that is unfortunately being threatened.

The paper faces major hurdles in the year ahead, but it’s also on the cusp of an important transformation. Visit huntnewsnu.com/donate to donate to the cause and learn more about what the staff and Board of Directors are doing to put the Huntington News back on a sustainable path.

Check back to this page for more information on how the fundraiser is going, as well as details on an alumni event we're planning for homecoming next month.
