Planet MicroJam Institute at Berklee College of Music New musical ideas are on the horizon at the crossroads of new beats, microtonal harmonies, and Eastern melodic inflections and improv concepts.

Planet MicroJam Institute Mission statement:
We live in an increasingly shrinking global village where 75 - 80% of the world's music is microtonal. Since Berklee's strategic initiative demands new ideas at Berklee, shouldn't Berklee be involved? The Planet MicroJam Institute under the direction of David Fiuczynski aims to:
- introduce students to western classical and non-western microtonal sourc

es, mix these in a new jazz/groove chordscale context with new beats
and create new musical language!
- get students to think outside of the box by the introduction of new concepts and perspectives that will help them organize their musical thoughts
- empower students with the knowledge that they could very well innovate new musical ideas before they even leave school!
- encourage a better understanding of other musical cultures and foster an environment of mutual respect.
- and as Berklee president Roger Brown mentioned : " our ultimate purpose at Berklee . . . [is] to create the conditions under which some kind of miraculous, unpredictable creativity can occur"

Congratulations to the amazing Berklee College of Music Class of 2024! I'm proud of my students with over 1350 graduates from 64 countries, each with unique talent and musical skill. They represent the future of music, and watching them grow and commit to their profession every semester brings me so much joy. Their continued requests to join my classes, semester after semester, show the strong bond we share and the dedication they have to their art. “The concert will start with an opening set by microtonal string quartets composed by Utar Artun. The next set will feature electrifying electro-acoustic duos with special guests and improvisations from the contemporary music scene. These artists will push the boundaries of sound and creativity by fusing tradition and innovation. As the night progresses, Artun’s music will evolve into captivating grooves and microtonal melodies based on Mid-Eastern MicroJamz, featuring Berklee PlanetMicrojam, including students, alumni, and faculty members. Don’t miss out on this unique experience!”
