The UUA’s Music Leadership Professional Development Program is bringing you three great professional development opportunities this summer prior to the start of the AUUMM Conference! All courses count toward the requirements of the Music Leadership Certification Program and will take place at the conference hotel.
Leadership of Congregational Singing

This course will develop strong, effective, and inspiring leadership of hymns/songs for congregational singing. Through the use of both practical and written assignments, candidates will use a wide range of musical styles and techniques to help them broaden and deepen the worship experience of the congregations they serve.
Leading a Rehearsal

Your congregation’s choir members are worship leaders. How do we create a sense of ownership and belonging in rehearsal that will enable singers to joyfully lead the congregation?
This class will focus on elements of leading a choral rehearsal including warm ups, teaching and introducing new music to singers, working with a variety of singers, score preparation, troubleshooting and polishing music, timing and pacing your rehearsal for success, and creating a positive atmosphere in rehearsals. This will be a hands-on class, with all of us singing, conducting, and sharing ideas.
Navigating Congregational Conflict

In this course, participants will:
• Examine and practice ways to navigate healthy conflict as a leader
• Identify ways to work collaboratively with other leaders through conflict
• Investigate the ways healthy conflict aligns with UU values
• Increase interpersonal awareness using a Systems Theory lens
