Hello, my name is Laela Volmar, and I am preparing to enter my senior year of high school this fall!

My community involvement has included participation in Speech and Debate, as well as serving on the Student Diversity Committee. I have also dedicated time to volunteering with the Peoples Academy of Boston for the past 5 years, and more recently Chief of Staff at Hired After Bars — a youth-led nonprofit organization.

I am especially excited to work at TLCC this summer, and contribute to preserving our culture!

Hi, my name is Ednot Saint Louis. I’m 23 years old and I’m the Youth Lead at the Toussaint Louverture Cultural Center (TLCC).

I’ve always loved working with young people and helping out in the community. For me, it’s all about being a positive influence, helping others grow, and making sure everyone has the support they need to succeed.

Being at TLCC has been a great experience so far. I get to mentor our summer interns, help manage daily activities, and stay connected with our culture. I’m really glad to be part of the team and looking forward to making the most out of this summer!

We want to let you know that, due to extenuating circumstances, Jean-Claude Martineau (Koralen) will be unable to join us for tonight's Rasin ak Rèv: Roots and Dreams. We know many of you were looking forward to his presence, and we share that disappointment.

We're glad to share that Dr. Patrick Sylvain will be joining this evening's conversation in his place, alongside Dr. Régine Michelle Jean-Charles and Charlot Lucien, for what promises to be a rich dialogue on land, memory, and storytelling across the Haitian diaspora.

As part of the evening, we'll also be presenting a one-time art exhibit featuring the work of Haitian artists. The exhibit is curated by Joseph M. Chéry, Resident Curator of the Haitian Artist Assembly of Massachusetts, and Dumas Lafontant, ML, author and founder of Abarigani. Artists on display include Edna Chéry, Joseph M. Chéry, Gerald Decilien, Myrlène (Mimi) Legendre Desir, Fritz Ducheine, Jean-Claude Sainté, and Jean Patrick Tintin — each bringing a distinct voice shaped by memory, identity, and the Haitian experience.

We hope you'll still join us tonight, Friday, August 28 at 7:00pm in the Blue Wing.
