Baroque Still Life : Remixing The Past
Do you ever wonder what makes paintings in the museum glow and sing? Or what did artists
of the past consider when they began a painting? Furthermore, how the heck did they produce
the stunning masterpieces we cherish today, in eras before science, and with minimal
technology?
During this 5 day workshop, join oil painter and educator Dan Bunn in a deep dive to reverse
engineer the aesthetics and processes of Baroque still life painters, using contemporary
materials and sensibilities to make impactful artwork.
We’ll consider materials, subject, and creating a studio scenario that will set you up to make a
convincing painting, as well as cover basic to advanced concepts for how to pull it all together
when you’re working on your own later. During the 5 days we will go through a full painting
process, from picture planning to finishing touches.

Oil Painting As Easy As 1-2-3
Are you a painter looking to elevate your skill level? Or a beginner wanting to dip your toes into oil painting? This workshop will be great for both!

In these 3 days, we shall learn reliable painting techniques and 3 steps you can follow to achieve consistently great results as easily as 1-2-3!

On day 1, you will start your painting using one of the many references supplied by the instructor (or your own). There will be a lecture about indirect painting steps, application techniques, and materials you will use.

On day 2, you will dive deeper into understanding color! There will be an introduction into color theory and a demo of opaque vs. transparent application technique.

On day 3, you will refine your painting and learn how to create a smooth realistic finish. You will leave the workshop with an abundance of knowledge you can apply in your personal artistic practice.

Class Description
A no-nonsense fire-hose of information that includes everything you need to know to make better representational drawings and paintings. While being self taught is sometimes used as a badge of honor, it’s often a coded excuse for lack of abilities. Julie knows this because she did the same thing. Atelier training is already strapping a rocket booster to your abilities, but the reality is that very few have the ability to drop everything and attend an atelier full time or even part time. So even if you don’t have the ability to train at an atelier in person, you can take this information and deep dive at your own pace into the many elements that are taught in technical training. Who needs 4 years of Atelier training when you have Julie cramming all this information into your face?

First there will be an depth presentation/lecture that not only includes all the vital atelier training information, but also includes examples of what NOT to do from her old horrible paintings. After that, Julie will roast 3 paintings/drawings that were submitted in advance.
