One year ago, we lost one of our brightest and kindest sisters — Kate Hunter. Kate was the kind of person we all strive to be: warm, kind, passionate, vivacious, smart, and a friend to us all. Everyone she touched, whether it was MIT’s lightweight crew team, the cycling club, her sisters in Sigma Kappa, or especially her closest friends and family, was incredibly blessed with her boundless joy and love. Last year, Kate tragically passed away just a few days after her December 26th birthday, leaving us all too soon. Yet over the short time that Kate was a part of Sigma Kappa and MIT, she became someone everyone looked up to. From her motivational healthy lifestyle to her comforting and listening heart, she made so many of our lives better.
Our chapter of Sigma Kappa would like to honor her memory and carry on this lasting impact she would have made on each and every one of her future sisters as our then-elected VP of New Member Education. It is with tremendous love in our hearts that we ask you to consider donating to the Kate Hunter Memorial Scholarship, to love and remember our inspirational sister.

SK will be having our first fundraiser for the Kate Hunter Memorial Scholarship this Friday (10/26) at the Student Center from 11am-4pm.
To support the scholarship you can:
- donate via this link: https://my.crowdchange.co/df4wtr
- donate via venmo -Scholarship
- come to Cookies for Kate :)
The scholarship reflects Kate’s incredible nature: unending love, support, passion for fitness, excitement, and humor. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to allow the scholarship to be endowed—once we raise this amount, the scholarship will be able to be granted indefinitely. This fundraiser is the first step towards that goal, and all proceeds will go directly to the scholarship.

Kate was a force of nature. She shined like a star, always bringing light and joy to everyone around her. Being a student at MIT is difficult, but Kate faced the challenges head on, fearless. She was passionate about changing the world, and she was diligent to learn everything she could, even if the courses were hard, because she knew the knowledge that she would gain would help her better the world.
Beyond school, Kate lived a full life. She was an active member in the MIT community. Her freshman year, she rowed as a part of the Women’s Lightweight Crew team. Afterwards, she became a member of the Cycling Club and Dance Troupe. Kate loved staying active and eating healthy. She promoted health and wellness among her friends, and she became a Medlink for her living group, Sigma Kappa, because she wanted to help everyone, anytime.
But Sigma Kappa was one of Kate’s most important communities. From her motivational early morning breakfasts to her comforting and listening heart, she made Sigma Kappa better. She taught us sisters so much, but everyone could also see how much she grew and changed as well because of Sigma Kappa.
While Kate’s time in Sigma Kappa was too short, she will always be remembered. The Kate Hunter Scholarship will honor a current sophomore year, initiated sister of high character and who has shown personal growth, as a tribute to Kate’s life and journey as a Sigma Kappa and student at MIT. Please donate to help increase our endowment fund to establish the Kate Hunter Scholarship and to help remember Kate's spirit and dreams.
