You’re invited!🎬🍿🎟️
Witness the premiere of Mayor of Lowell, a short documentary that celebrates a city full of “firsts”! Admission is FREE!
Synopsis:
This short documentary chronicles the culture and arts of Cambodian Americans and the Lowell community through the eyes of Sokhary Chau, the first Cambodian American Mayor in the United States. Chau immigrated to the United States at seven years old to escape the Khmer Rouge genocide. Through this unique story that showcases the best of Lowell—immigrant success, assimilation, history, and the development of the arts—we see a man born into a war-torn country who comes to America to be a first-in-the-nation leader.
Following the screening, there will be a conversation with former Mayor Chau and the filmmakers Hunter R Berube, Kayla Dalton, and Kennis Chanvasna Yin-Mor. The evening’s moderator is Homeópata Carla Rojas, reporter, NBC 10 Boston, NECN and Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra. She is a Lowellian and Suffolk University alumna.
This short documentary operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
