One of the things that is bringing me great comfort during these cold and dark December days are the mini-moves of the Sounder Sleep System. I love this story from Paris Kern about a student in her training:
We had just started the new online training for mainland China. There was a mother with a 10-month-old baby. Both were not sleeping well and had not for quite a few months. The mom was in tears and at her wit's end. Anyone who has had sleep deprivation because of a baby in their full-time care is familiar with the sense of desperation, hopelessness, stress, and even anger. All those ingredients raise the level of anxiety which is not just a mental state but also a somatic one. Anyone around you, especially a baby that you are holding, will sense and respond to the anxiety and will also become anxious. I encouraged her to practice the new techniques while the baby was napping in the day, By the third day both baby and Mom were sleeping for 3-4 hours a stretch (she is still nursing once in the night). By the end of the week, they were sleeping around 5 hours and neither baby nor mom were woken by wet diaper! (Dad was happy too!)
The Sounder Sleep System is based on the discovery that certain small, slow, repeated physical movements can shift us from the active, waking state to a state of profound physical and mental repose. When we reach that tranquil state, if we need sleep, we will fall asleep.
As long as there has been sleep, humans have had difficulty sleeping from time to time. Mostly this is a passing thing but when it becomes chronic the quality of life diminishes rapidly. In these trying times more and more of us are having insomnia, or our already hampered sleep has become worse.
This three day workshop (Jan 18-20) will profoundly improve the quality of you sleep and therefore your life. Those that want to continue on for modules 2 & 3 can become certified to teach the Sounder Sleep System. It is recommended that you have had a minimum of 10 Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons or have taken Paris Kern’s course A Good Night’s Sleep before enrolling in the full Sounder Sleep System training. The workshop + training is limited to 20 participants.
The Teacher: Paris Kern, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Trainer® and Sounder Sleep System instructor, has been teaching groups and individuals for over 30 years.
