Classes will be held in 4 different cities of Peru: Lima, Ica, Nazca and Cuzco. PERU DIALOGUE OF CIVILIZATION MAY 16 – JUNE 19, 2014
1. Spanish Language Immersion
• This Spanish immersion program will take place in Lima (the capital of Peru). The course consists of 4 hours per day of instruction, focusing on developing all four language skills (speaking, writing, listening and reading) and part
icipating in Peruvian cultural activities.
• The Spanish immersion program will offer intensive Spanish language training to solidify your knowledge of Spanish grammar and to help you become more fluent in the Spanish language.
• During this five week program, you will speak Spanish, participate in cultural activities and interact with local people. You will live with a host family in the upscale city of Miraflores (Lima – Peru)
• You will be part of an Internship, working as a teacher of English at the Peruvian Air Force School. At the end of your teaching duties, the Peruvian Air Force School will award you with a work certificate that will help to improve your resume.
• You will have 1- 2 Spanish speaker partners to practice your Spanish during the whole program.
• It will be an exciting way to explore the Spanish language and to experience another culture’s people, ideas, customs and beliefs. You will sample all that the cities of Lima and Cuzco have to offer using the Spanish language.
2. Peruvian and Hispanic Culture
• This course will introduce you to the broad spectrum of Peruvian and Hispanic cultures through different activities. This Spanish culture class is based on experience-based learning of Spanish.
• You will acquire a new understanding of the culture of Peru and the Hispanic World. You will be immersing yourself in the language and cultural opportunities presented through the in-country immersion experience.
• About 50 % of the class will be lecture and theory. The remaining 50% will be interactive activities, your participation and visits to historic sites in Lima (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKg6Qr_n6-M) and Cuzco (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/273). Among the sites included are Machu Picchu (one of the Wonders of the World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esy_YpKq_eY), Caral (First ancient civilization in America and third ancient civilization in the world https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDmm-MymkSk) and the mysterious Nazca Lines in Ica (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBBfTmKJz2U).
