Back-to-school prep is about more than backpacks, supplies, and schedules. 📚📱

For many K–8 students, the school year also means more group chats, gaming chats, FaceTime, texting, social media, and online friendships.

And what happens online can absolutely show up in the classroom.

Before school starts, talk with your child about:

💬 Group chats — They do not have to respond to everything or participate in gossip.

📸 Screenshots — Once something is shared, they may not be able to control where it goes.

❤️ Friendships — Exclusion, rumors, and hurtful comments online can impact real-life relationships.

🛑 Walking away — Leaving a chat, blocking someone, or coming to a trusted adult is always an option.

Most importantly, remind your child:

You can come to me when something happens online. We will figure it out together.

Our kids need guidance navigating their digital world just as much as they need guidance navigating the classroom.

Having an IEP or 504 Plan is an important support — but sometimes families are still left wondering:

“Why is homework still taking hours?”

“Why does my child understand it with help but struggle independently?”

“Why do they shut down as soon as something feels difficult?”

“Which skills should we actually be practicing at home?”

An accommodation can give a student access, but many students also need explicit instruction, repetition, confidence-building, and strategies they can use when an adult isn’t sitting right beside them.

That is where individualized tutoring can become another part of the village. 🍎

At Tini’s Classroom, I look beyond the assignment. I pay attention to how a student approaches the task, where the breakdown happens, what helps them understand, what frustrates them, and which strategies help them become more independent.

Sessions may include visual models, step-by-step instruction, guided practice, repetition, games, academic skill-building, and confidence-building — all personalized around the learner.

And families stay informed about what we’re seeing, what we’re working on, and what can be reinforced at home.

Tini’s Classroom does not replace your child’s IEP/504 team or specialized services. We provide individualized academic support that can work alongside them.

Because your child is more than the paperwork.

They’re a learner with strengths, needs, interests, personality — and potential. ❤️

Hi everyone! 👋🏾📚

I’m Martine Romulus Vandi, a Boston educator with 13 years of K–8 teaching experience and a Master’s in Education, and I’m the founder of Tini’s Classroom, an online tutoring and academic support program for elementary and middle school students.

Tini’s Classroom will be open throughout the 2026–2027 school year, and I’m currently accepting a limited number of students, along with a few small-group tutoring spots.

I support students who may need help with:

📖 Reading comprehension & literacy
✏️ Writing skills
➗ Math support & skill-building
🎯 Closing academic gaps
💛 Building confidence and independence
📚 Staying on track throughout the school year
🏀 Student-athlete support for balancing practices, games, assignments, studying, and academic responsibilities

For student-athletes especially, I understand that schoolwork can quickly pile up around practices, travel, and game schedules. I help students create stronger routines, stay organized, manage their workload, and keep academics from becoming the thing that gets pushed aside.

My goal is bigger than simply helping students finish homework. I work to identify the skills a child needs, provide targeted instruction, and keep families informed about their progress.

Darius Cooks ( Darius Williams) creator, educator, and teacher, said something that educators and parents need to hear—and he’s right. 📚

After 13 years in education, I’ve watched this shift happen in real time. Students are entering classrooms with larger gaps in reading, writing, math, science, and critical-thinking skills. And those academic struggles don’t always look like “I don’t understand.” Sometimes they show up as frustration, avoidance, disengagement, or behavior.

But this conversation cannot become a blame game.

I don’t believe it’s about blaming kids.
I don’t believe it’s about blaming parents.
And I don’t believe it’s about blaming teachers.

This is bigger than any one person.

And it isn’t limited to one type of school. Public. Charter. Private. Catholic. Elementary school through college—we’re seeing students who need stronger academic foundations, greater accountability, and more support.

So what do we do?

We start talking. We ask our kids what’s happening in their classrooms. We read with them. We practice math. We communicate with teachers. We pay attention when something feels off. And as educators, we continue meeting students where they are without lowering the expectations for where they can go.

Because recognizing the problem isn’t giving up on our kids.

It’s how we start building something better.

Thank you, Darius Cooks (Darius Williams), for using your platform as a creator and teacher to start a conversation worth having. 👏🏾

At Tini’s Classroom, we don’t blame. We build. ❤️🍎

📚 Boston book lovers, this one’s for you!

In honor of National Book Lovers Day, I’m showing some love to the local bookstores helping keep reading, curiosity, and community alive. ❤️

From Roxbury to Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Brookline, and Beacon Hill, these are 5 bookstores Boston-area families should have on their radar.

🍎 Frugal Bookstore
☕ Just Book-ish
📖 Papercuts Bookshop
🐢 Turtle Books
❤️ Beacon Hill Books & Cafe

Because building readers isn’t just about what happens in the classroom. Take the kids to a bookstore. Let them browse. Let them choose. Let them see themselves in books. Build that home library one book at a time. 📚

And whenever we can: shop local, support literacy, and support our communities.

Because reading is bigger than academics. Books help us build empathy, confidence, curiosity, imagination, and connection.

The best part of Tini’s Classroom? Hearing the kids realize that learning can actually feel good. 🍎✨

“I thought tutoring was going to be boring.”
“I feel more confident.”
“Can you zoom in a little bit?”
“Reading is way better.” 😂
“The tutoring is helping me.”

These are real moments from real tutoring sessions with student identities protected.

My students come from different learning environments — public, independent, METCO, charter, and private schools — but they all deserve the same thing: a space where they feel seen, supported, challenged, and comfortable enough to be themselves.

Because joy is not separate from learning.

Joy is part of the process. ❤️

We challenge.
We practice.
We laugh.
We listen.
We grow.
