It was a pleasure to wake up to, yet, another inspirational/encouraging message from a former scholar in one of my College Planning and Preparation courses. It is moving to know that my efforts are truly making an impact!
She said,
“ Hi Ed,
I hope you are doing well! I don't know if you remember me but i'm Gabby from CSA. I'm currently in my College Prep class and all of what you taught me is really handy. The pace of my current CP class is slower than yours which means I am ahead of most of my colleagues. Since I have all this useful knowledge, I passed down the articles you gave us to my CP teacher to pass down to my class. Also, I might be teaching the class one day with the notes I took during your slideshows. I am truly grateful that I had the opportunity to take your class .... Thank you!”
Best,
G

The college debt crisis is even worse than you think - The Boston Globe We tell students they need a bachelor’s degree to get ahead. But for too many, the numbers no longer add up.
Sometimes the best perspective that we can receive comes from the mouths of our children. Take heed for a change - and perhaps then you'll see change.

A former student of mine BLESSED the country with a wonderful heartfelt BOSTON STRONG tribute - CHECK IT OUT (really). The lovely face in the photo is also a former student of mine. I knew I picked the right profession
Community Post: Beautiful Tribute To The Boston Marathon Bombing Anniversary Listen to Northeastern student, Jeffrey Douyon nail an original song for the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Checked the mail yesterday and received over ten IRS 1099-MISC forms. For most people, the first reaction to IRS tax paperwork is to have a heart-attack; in fact, I used to be that way as well. But what I actually received in the mail were the results of my diligence and blessings. 2013 was a phenomenal year for Ed "Inspire for Higher" Walker and Independent Consultants of Education - and so, I take this time to say THANK YOU to those who invited us in and trusted me and/or our team. Because of you, we are one step closer to greatness!
With Appreciation,

For running the country in 2013, in addition to all of his investments, benefits, etc, President of Obama had an average net worth of $3,616,506 (note: for running the country). My initial reaction was "WOW." However, Dr. Jehuda Reinharz, former president of Brandeis University was paid $4.9 million this month. Is it just me or is there something seemingly wrong with this image?

What's more important, increasing your earning power or increasing your intellectual growth? Of course your response will depend on various things, but what are those things? The following article raises a few good points about the danger behind telling poor kids that college is the key to social mobility. What are you telling your child(ren)?

The Danger of Telling Poor Kids That College Is the Key to Social Mobility Higher education should be promoted to all students as an opportunity to experience an intellectual awakening, not just increase their earning power.
Community colleges have been fighting a great fight for this particular demographic (underrepresented communities) for quite some time, small private colleges play an integral role in the fight to improve the circumstances for this particular demographic; wealthy, resource rich, "elite" colleges/universities can be doing better; therefore, we need to put them in the "Hot Seat" i.e. the "spotlight." See this moment as an opportunity to collaborate vs. compete.

Great news for college bound students. Is it possible that some higher ed institutions are truly attempting to "level the playing field?" Read the following article about what many colleges/universities are pledging to do to assist young scholars. Shout out to Massachusetts schools for stepping up to the plate.
