The Pardee Center is pleased to welcome Ambassador Jorge Heine, a Research Professor at Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University, as Interim Director effective January 2023. Heine is a lawyer, IR scholar, and diplomat with a special interest in the international politics of the Global South. He has served as ambassador of Chile to China (2014-2017), to India (2003-2007), and to South Africa (1994-1999), and as a Cabinet Minister in the Chilean Government.
“The Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future has been around for almost a quarter of a century, and it planted the seeds for what is now the Pardee School of Global Studies,” notes Heine. “The Center embodies the passion of that visionary philanthropist that was Fred Pardee for understanding the future and what lies ahead for humanity. I have always been a future-oriented person, and being appointed director of the Center, even if only on an interim basis, is a great privilege. At a time when the world is in turmoil, it is especially important to ask the big questions that need to be asked as to which way we are going, and that is what I plan to do.”
